  • V shaped panel and post help

Posted by Warren Beard on September 23, 2010 at 8:51 am

    Hi All

Is there a way to make a "V" shaped panel and post sign but only using a single post? The panels will be A2 portrait and the customer insists it be V shaped even though it is not necessary, I would like to make one hole instead of 3 so is it possible? Is there some sort of bracket or something that allows them to be V shaped?

    Cheers

Fold a piece of dibond and fix open end to post with screws. Will look a bit like a flag.

quick reply, and hope im understanding you correct…

    the sign panel is small. A2 = 420 X 594mm? [portrait]
not sure if this would work in making the "V" severe enough, but as you said, back to back might be all that’s needed. anyway, could you not just put the sign on a single pole, using regular clips, but not back to back clips. and at one side, pinch the two signs together to form the "V".
if the post is offset to say the left of the signs as opposed to centred. the "V" should open further towards the back end of it.

as i say, hope ive picked you up correct and hope my explanation is understandable. :lol1:

that’s what I thought Rob but not sure if will offset enough to give it a decent "V" shape, just thinking about it I suppose the bigger the post the more I can offset it, will try find what the thickest post is.

    cheers guys.

yeh the diameter of the post being increased will help, but "i could be wrong" but you may end up having to buy a 5 metre post which will add to you cost, overkill on size and needs cut down, which is easy enough with a grinder and cutting blade.

one thing to watch if this is the way you are going.
if you are using regular clips and not back to back clips. the signs wont align perfectly because the clips need to sit above each other. so from one side you will see the other sign sitting just above the one your looking at and vice-versa from the other side.
you would need to off-set your channel rails on the rear to allow for this when your assembling them..

or you could use 2 channel rails and space one from the other.

Mitre the channel rail that is fixed to the panel so when they butt together they create the angle you want at the ‘V’ point.

Then space another rail off the first – this could be fixed by using a plate fixed at right angle to the sign panel and pop rivetted to both rails.

Belt and braces you could do 2 one top of channel one underneath.

The inside channel rail will obviously have to be cut short of the ‘V’ pointed end.

    Warren,
Pretty easy, if I’ve read your post correctly. All done with Dibond or whatever as per my crappy sketch. I think you’ll need 2 pieces of channel to stop in flopping downwards on the post.

as long as you can create the folds OK warren, Steve’s idea is probably the better solution mate.
i would make the bracket holding the channel "almost" the depth of the sign though to keep it a bit more rigid. but still… it would work for all the size the sign actually is.

”excellent drawing” It’s a very old 1980’s drawing package I use, all the consumables are still available too 😀
