  • Using Impact Vehicle Library with Illustrator

Hi Guys, I have recently bought an old version of impact (2018) on Ebay and am trying to use it with Illustrator… however, having problems getting the vehicle to scale. The book states to resize it to a scale factor of 2000% but that does not work… just wondered if anyone else has encountered any issues like this? Phoned the number on the disc but he practically refused to help, I guess because I did not buy directly from him.

    Any advice much appreciated, Rob

No need to scale up the outline, produce the design, and then scale up the files when out putting on the printer or cutter.

Also consider that whilst the outlines are invaluable, they’re not 100% accurate, and shouldn’t be relied upon for the likes of panels fills.

HI, Rob. If you want to enlarge them in Illustrator you need to scale them by 2000%. Depending on your version of Illustrator it may not fit on your artboard though.

      The EPS files are 100%

Anothrler thing to note, is CC versions of illustrator will allow the AI to be scales 2000% or the Epson to be opened at 100%, but of using CM4, the scale isn’t right, CM doesn’t like the huge art boards AI allows.

Which is why my preference is to design at 1:20 and scale up when outputting.

I definitely remember on the old version of Impact having to scale up the files in Illustrator and them not fitting on the artboard. Haven’t used them in years though as now I do 99% of the fitting and leave the designing to our designers.

Actually I am a little disappointed that ALL of the vehicle outlines use a stupid scale that nobody understands.
    It should be 10:1!
I do ALL my designs 10:1 (or an order of magnitude of ten), and I have NEVER made a scale mistake.
Its stuff like this wot stuffs up jobs.

It really annoys me how illustrator limits its page size.
I honestly could not be doing with having to upscale artwork. Leaves too much margin for error.
We have used Impacts vehicle outlines for well over 20+ years, but use them already scaled up in CDL format which Signlab uses.

Many thanks for your help. I will try scaling up in the cutting software then. I always jot the panel measurements down and go by that anyway – old school keepin’ it real🤟 – but this will make it easier, thanks a lot
