  • Using a Scaffold tower to install a sign

Tried to find other posts but haven’t come across any.

What are the rules on using a small scaffold tower on the pavement?

Apart from obvious safety things like blocking people from walking under it.

    Cheers

The actual rules for a pop up scaffold are the exact same as a fixed scaffold so don’t ask if you don’t want grief.

Technically you should apply for a permit and the obvious costs that go with it!

Oh how much fun we have had in the past with this…..even had a policeman threaten to arrest fitters if they didn’t move the scaffold.

Oh how I miss these days!

Never had a problem using it but as above – there are proper channels and hoops. I tend to use ladders more than towers wherever possible.

Slightly off topic but Zarges do a mobile telescopic tower (Teletower) which is a great piece of kit for around £1000.
One man job to erect and will fit into the back of an estate car.

We use a narrow tower and have done so for the past 10 years on pavements in all situations never had a problem.
Just need to be sensible make sure the tower is built correctly with handrails etc and toe boards just need to watch out for disabled people and motability type scooters on very narrow pavements.

In my opinion better and safer than ladders or trestle and board

    Have fun

firstly buy your own kit if you plan to use it a fair bit
hired ones are bashed about covered in plaster and have shopping trolley wheels (in my experience 😕 )
we have two sets of wheels indoor and outdoor ones.
do the pasma course one day. a lo of public buildings shopping centres require it now.
wear the right kit we even have harness with scaff hooks .
we still use ladders though were possible. zargess ones.

but i am still amazed when i come across traders inc sign makers /installers using old wooden ladders
scaffold with no cross members etc 😮
the wrong kit and no idea
risking your life for a few quid aint worth it

i did have a set of trestles but sold them (wish i still had them though !)

    derek

    😀

This is something else I need to look at.

I’ve used Scaffolding once, and that was because the customer found some their electrician had left. Did make life so much easier.

It’s whether it fits in our van…
