  • upgrade to corel x4

    Hi
Just bought corel x4 full retail pack (nice price too).

Can anyone confirm that when I install it my corel 12 files will open without problems in x4.

Also since it’s not an upgrade (upgrades don’t come with the manuals/clipart books) I presume that corel 12 will remain on my system and I will have to delete it manually.

    Thanks

    Ian :lol1:

You won’t have a problem opening your old files with X4 but any artwork produced or amended in X4 will save in version X4 unless you save in earleir version.

Version 12 will stay on your system but to be honest you won’t need it.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Hi Ian

I am just debating upgrading. A nice price would help 😀 Do you mind me asking who has a nice price please? (unless it was personal)

    Cheers

As Gary has said X4 can exist with other versions assuming you let them have their default folders to install in. V12 files should open with no problem although if you do experience any issues export as cmx and import that. Colour management is slightly different so colours may display differently, alter settings in colour manager to bring display in line although it should be more accurate in X4. Powertrace is now within the programme and not standalone, other than that you will find your way round no problem. I would not use V12 workspaces – reconstruct in X4 and save. More macros are available for X4 than V12 so a visit to http://www.macromonster.com or http://www.oberonplace.com may be good.

    Hi David

Nothing magical, the dreaded Ebay only £155 + free postage for boxed version.

A bit of homework and confirming details was needed e.g. UK based seller, full retail boxed version, boxed is important cos there’s lots of useful stuff in there.
There’s a few sellers showing picture of the box but beware they only ship the cd/dvd, education/ academic version works (as far as I am aware) but does not contain the extras, you might get a clipart disk but from experience it’s a nightmare trying to locate what you want without a book.

    Good hunting.

Alan, thanks as always, was verging on transferring to illustrator/photoshop, one of reasons – the many macros/plugins you can find… I assume Corel doesn’t still have as many but what the heck I know my way around Corel so a change would be challenging.

    Cheers Ian

Yes, ebay, I like to see a photo of the actual product, not a library picture :lol1:

    Thanks

Ian, Corel doesn’t need as many plugins because the features are there already 😀
