• Upgrade for SignPal

Posted by Peter Munday on May 9, 2012 at 8:45 am

Just been onto Grafityp for a price to upgrade my SignPal software ( version 6.6 ) and I was quoted £397.00 + vat 😮
As I have just upgraded Corel to version X6 is there a cheaper cutting option, say, direct from Corel.
To be honest I do all my design in Corel and just export to SignPal to cut.

Nothing stopping you carrying on with that workflow but look to macromonster.com for a cutting utility that supports all cutters. If you decide to spend extra then CoCut is worth a look as although more expensive it does offer extra tools such as bleeds but you will need to check their website to confirm if it supports X6.

If you use a Summa Winplot can be made to work with X6. I am not sure if other manufacturers utilities have been updated for X6

Peter you can cut directly from Corel, just send us an email with what windows os you are using and what SignPal cutter you are using and we will send you the print driver.

On a side note the price should have been £395 + vat …….. normal rrp is £699 + vat, the price quoted was an upgrade price.

Nigel have been giving this some thought, the plotter is not network ready and is run on an older PC than the one I use for design. This PC is however on the network.
Will I still be able to send to the plotter or will I not see it in the printer menu? The way it works now is, design in Corel, export to an external drive and then import into SignPal.
As I explained to your tech guy’s, ever since I’ve had the plotter it has only ever accepted AI files, nothing else, is this because of it’s age ( bought from new from you about 8-10 years ago) as I can’t get it to recognise any other format.
Everything was ok until I upgraded Corel as this will not export in AI version 5

Peter, Corel will export AI back to 3 X and then it goes to 8 have you tried those? I seem to remember I had a similar issue in X4? and the Corel guys told me to try AI8 because of some renaming thing they did and it worked so give that a try. Be sure to click OFF simulate complex fills, this will avoid vertical lines in some letters

Peter if you are just using SignPal as a means to send to the cutter then you could just buy SignPal Apprentice and save yourself £300…….one thing though the firmware on the cutter might need upgrading if you decide to have the latest SignPal.

If you want to use the print driver why don’t you just connect the cutter direct to your design pc ?

Nigel, my design PC has no serial ports. 🙁
How would I upgrade the firmware on the plotter?

Peter if your cutter has a LCD control panel, when you turn the power on watch the LCD and it will briefly show what level firmware you are currently running………is it a Jaguar or Ultra you have?

if your design pc has usb ports, why not get a usb to serial adapter.
I use one all the time. they work great.
