Are you trying to open it or import?
drag and drop the file onto a blank signlab page, and see what happenaPeter

Nothing really happens there a blink on the screen as though something has happened but the page is still blank.
I have now saved it as a tif using Photoshop and it opened but it is making me think about where I need to go with upgrades.
I’m using Signlab 6 and Photoshop CS (and Illustrator) which is fine as I only cut from it or use the Edge, however as the files people are sending me are useing more up to date programs I need to do something but it’s choosing which way to go.

Hi Shaun,
I have this same problem when importing .ai, to my vector program, wich is ve lxi 6(same as flexi sign), the program crashes and closes. If this is your case try to export to .eps with another program and import it again.
If it’s a picture, try exporting with different extensions.
I’ve been with this problem and realized that got few types of files that won’t work.
I have corel x3(which I don’t like much), to import the file in there and then export to my preferred file. Hope this info helps you.
I don’t know if you can here post the file, if you need me to convert it for you.Good luck!
Patricia.

Thanks Patricia.
I have done that using photoshop I exported it from there as a tif then imported it into Signlab.
A route I have used in the past was to export a file from Illustrator after saving it as a legacy Ai file then saving as Illustrator 3 but this wouldn’t work, hence saving it as a Tif
However I have got a demo of Signlab 8 and that opened it with no problem so I’m thinking even though it’s holiday time and we are not in the best financial climate it may be time to upgrade.

Hi Shaun,
You can get an unsupported jpeg message when taking a jpeg that has ben created in CYMK into sign lab – sign lab will only recognize jpegs created in RGB
Hope this also helps.

hmm. SignLab doesn’t support CMYK JPEG? hmmmm that would worry me

Not sure that’s true, can you post a jpeg that signlab doesnt support, so I can see if it imports, I have never had this problem, but obviously would be good to know

Hi Peter,
I had this problem a while ago and it was someone on the boards that pointed it out to me. I went away saved the image as an RGB jpeg and it went in no problem?
Maybe a fluke but it works or not every time its done.
I’m really tired just now but if you try it say in photo shop when saving as a jpeg try cmyk
– it wont go into signlab. -
Nigel
It may well be the version of signlab, ( I am on 8)
I just saved a Jpg from cs3 as cymk, and it imported into signlab OK

Hi Peter,
It could well be i was using 6 at the time 8 seems to be very much more versatile with exporting files of different formats. But it did work a the time for me!

I am running Signlab 6 and I’m guessing most out there are on at least 7.1. I did speak with Richard yesterday from Signmaster and I think it’s time I upgraded at least one PC. I will however save the image as RGB to try it.

Hi Shaun,
– let me know how you get on – it sorted the problem for me!

PeterI have a demo of 8 and that opened it.
I have just saved the Jpeg in question as RGB using Illustrator and 6 opened it
Thanks Gents.
And not forgetting Patricia Thanks

Your welcome.
Regarding pictures the program doesn’t allow me to import .gif, otherwise, I can set mode to cmyk, rgb, hsb, lab.
It is kind of old, but I like the way it works.Regards,
Patricia.

A lot of people used to buy Coreldraw because it had/.has excellent and numerous import-export filters (and a couple of quirky ones); you can play around with your files in Corel, converting them to other file types then export to your cutting/printing program..
Saying that, I myself am a numpty in this area, if having problems getting to the file I usually first try importing, then opening them, then dropping them into the window, then converting to another file type (signlab or Corel), one of the methods usually works.
