    Hi

sry for using this forum but I need to post a pic.

the customer has saw a few signs around and wants something the same.

Ive never done the letter with led’s thing so I’m not even sure what you call these.

Anyone know what the ‘backyard’ lettering in the pic is most likely made of?

    Plastic / metal?

    Are these built ups?

I’ve got plenty suppliers in mind and know I can get a template and so on but I want to know what i’m asking for.

These letters appear to be built up metal rim & return letters – that is to say metal returns and face trim fitted with an acrylic face and backtray.

Looking at the picture the letters are spaced off the fascia so I’d ask the question as to whether they give a halo light onto the background as well as illuminate through the face.

From the look of it they seem to be satin stainless steel and the firemans switch at the left hand end of the fascia (by the CCTV camera) would lead me to believe that they’ll be illuminated by cold cathode (neon) tubing – something to be aware of when removing the letters.

    Regards

I do not think they illuminate from the front….Only a halo glow from the back.
These are built up stainless steel.

    Martin,

There certainly seems to be some sort of rim to the letters & what appears to be a glossy green face to the "BACK" letters at least so I’d stand by my comment that they appear to be a rim & return letter rather than straightforward built up letters.

Totally agree with the comment about the Neon (Firemans switch and leads confirm that point)

…But the faces appear to be the same as the returns (looks more like someone repainted the fascia and did not bothered to remove the letters 😉 )

yes they look like a solid st/st letter with a backtray (probably clear) so the chances are they will have neon inside that is probably why they are so deep (minimum 100mm for neon with a return bend at each end)
If you look closely you will see the fixings on the side, just choose an easy letter and take one off. (isolate first of course)

    Cheers guys

I have popped back at night to take a picture and try and clear up what
    they are.

Did some phoning as well and everyone says stainless steel is the most expensive option.

Is there an alternative? a cheaper way?

These look to me like built up, flat faced polished s/s with a reduced grey vinyl to the face. Halo illuminated, so probably with a clear backtray faced with translucent red vinyl or red led illumination.
They are a cheaper alternative to rim/ return but give a similar effect during the day. From your nightime photo it there’s obviously no face illumination so they are not rim/ return letters, you would see the difference between the rim material thickness & the acrylic face on the photo if they were.
