Does anyone in my neck of the woods know if the "Kerb It" recycling boxes are mandatory or if its just asked that people use them?

The reason I ask is our box keeps getting stolen then when we put our cans and paper in a normal box or bag as the Council advise us to do the Kerb It van wont take it away. We came in on Friday to find our dog food cans (and the odd beer can) strewn all across the back lane (kids probably). Im going to contact the Council on Monday and tell them to cancel the re-ordered Kerb It box as I am going to refuse to recycle until I have it in writing that any time our box is stolen the Kerb It men will take recyclable materials from other containers (as we are advised to do).

I visited my Auntie about 12 years ago in Norfolk and they had about 3 seperate Wheelie bins for different materials, we get a poxy box no bigger than a 14" CRT monitor to recycle a weeks worth of cans and paper.

    Our Council are absolutely useless!

    Rant over! (hot)

We have had our recycling bin stolen twice since November.

I have come to the conclusion that this is because it contains paper and as a result letters and junk mail that can be used for identity fraud.

I have expressed my concerns to the local "plod" but as expected they assure me that the bins are stolen by kids. I have my doubts..

Actually, my firm belief is that that current financial crisis we are experiencing is because of identity fraud. The banks have become overwhelmed with cases of expenditure due to credit card fraud and do not want to admit the scale of the problem.

The result is that all these banks are having to write off billions of pounds due to fraud, and they are afraid to tell the public of the scale of the problem.

Bl00dy hell Phil, I’m flabbergasted that you admit that the credit it crunch is down to someone stealing your wheelie bin,
I knew you had a few bob, but didn’t realise how much….

Now now Peter – no need to be so sarcastic. You know I am talking in general about all the ways credit card fraud is happening. "Phishing" being the prime example (and major cause of problems in the banking system). When you add up all these various methods of robbing banks in the modern electronic age – you begin to understand the scale of the problem (which the banks do not wish to admit to). They invented the modern electronic online method of banking – which in turn has produced bank robbery of nightmarish proportions 😕

A bin would be nice Phill, at least it has a lid. The Kerb It boxes look like this:-

Could you get a weeks recycling in that? My newspapers would fill that alone, never mind 2 dogs worth of empty cans and all the other recyclable waste.

It was only tongue in cheek, not sarcastic,
Anyway your theory may have a lot of credence, especially if you also add in all the amount of fraud from Nigerian banking scams,

just to add, devon’s box is a little bit bigger for can, all the paper ends up in a big green bag. We have a green weelie for card and plants and black wheelie for landfill collected on alternative weeks

    Hi Paul,
We too started out with the small black recycling box (Newcastle Council) but soon after they were issued there were that many complaints that they scrapped them, or should I say recycled them, and gave us the bigger wheelie bin type. Your council will probably be doing the same soon
