  • Twister LED’s what do i do with them?

Posted by Grasshopper on December 13, 2005 at 9:00 pm

Biggy coming up, have opted for twister LED’s on the back of 500mm flat cut brushed S/S letter mounted on a 18 metre gloss dark brown folded aly folded panel fascia.

Any views or feedback regarding Twister LED’s would be greatly appreciated, looking forward to putting it together, although a bit apprehensive.

i am sure nigel at creative signs has used twister led’s mate. if you look in one of the gallery pages on “signextra” you will see something he did using them.
have you compared them with ashbys new LEDs?

Jay, I used the twister leds on a brown facia with st/st letters. Not good, I tried to convince the owner to paint the facia a lighter colour but he woudn’t have it. The leds just give a small spot of light instead of an extended glow, as the facia absorbs some of the light. The owner is now going to repaint the facia, and I will have to remove and refit the letters.

I do beleive they have now increased the light emitted from the twister, and they did recommend I use the Super Twister at the time but the budget would not allow it.

Better off with non gloss surface, light in colour.

    Best of luck

    Dave

we talking the new leds dave?

the brown back is the worst mate… i did same. crap results. not enough glow, but i think that might be the backing material and the colour combined that absorbs the glow. its a bit annoying to say the least. i know how you felt. 😕

    Hi Jay

I’m doing a job next week with Twisters onto the back of chrome bevelled letters (onto a white Alupanel ground), also some for edge lighting of an acrylic oval in part of the same design.

Involves around 290 white twister modules in all. I guess from the price from Applelec that you must be using a similar amount.

Don’t know if I’ll finish my job before yours but will post piccies as soon as it’s done.

Someone local has recently fitted a couple of jobs in town comprising LED halo lit built up letters. All I can see is a reflection of the leds and no halo at all. Both are on dark backgrounds. Just out of interest, what is the answer to that? Some kind of diffuser?

Hats off to you Dave, you have probably just saved me a fortune and a red face. Ashby’s don’t recommend LED’s in that situation and their tube lighting would be to expensive, their quotes for the ali panels were spot on though and red hot on customer service, so good call all round folks!

So it looks like the Dark gloss brown, with S/S flat cuts and Signlux lighting above it, unless anyone has anyother ideas.

Thanks for the input guys, in my short time designing and cutting I have found UKSB invaluable.

    THANK YOU!
