    Hi
i am trying to add crop marks to some artwork in illustrator to represent the edge of a banner so that i can send the artwork to a trade printer.

i have followed these failry simple instructions:

    http://rubberspark.com/creating-crop-ma … lustrator/

The thing is i then need to delete the original rectangle so that i am left with just the crop marks. But when i delete the rectangle the crop marks are deleted as well. Does anybody know how to seperate the two?

    thanks

    Liam

Which version of Illustrator are you using?

Hmmm…in CS5 it’s in the object menu – create trim marks. These are editable, and
won’t disappear when you delete the rectangle. In CS3 it was in the filter menu –
create crop marks. Not sure about CS4 though….probably one of the two.

    Thanks Jamie,
in CS4 it’s under ‘effect’, but i just don’t know how to seperate them, they seem to be attached to the object.

    thanks

That is still there in CS5, but it isn’t the one you want. Try looking in the object menu
for something like ‘create trim marks’. They are different to crop marks in Illustrator,
    which remain uneditable.
