    Hi friends,

I’m starting to think about what I’ll need over there, coming from the sub tropics to the UK, what sort of temperature do you guys and gals think I should expect? Rain? snow? Wind? (sounds like Melbourne actually) 😉

The meal at SignUK…. is that a formal affair? suit and tie? stubbies and a T shirt?

Anything else I should know? Do I shake hands with the queen, or do I curtsy?

    So many questions…..

Weather should be mild to warm, Shane, and could rain No cork Hats!
Smart casual is the dress code for the meal, whatever that means,
it’s a private room so it doesnt really matter.
Not sure if you curtsy to the old girl unless you are wearing a frock.

So we are on the final countdown…….

well have you traveled this far before?

Weather can be summed up as good at the moment

Dress, well i be going in black jeans and the brightest colour clashing button’d shirt i can find. Rob’s apparently got a special little pink number being sewn up so he told me.

    Thanks friends….

    … yes, I’m getting nervous now…

all these questions going through my head… what if no one understands me…. what if I can’t understand scottish….. what if they don’t have cold beer….

and… erm…. the wife is taking the cork hat out of my bag as I type 😳

That darn link is in C not F.
Shane, as I recall, when I was over there 3 years ago, it was like spring but slightly chillier than here.
All the spring flowers were still up, while mine at home were gone.

Hopefully Rob will have packed his iron, I know he likes to be well-pressed. And I can understand Scottish better than an English accent.
And I am great with an Oz one from hanging around with John Jordan back in the day.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to listen to me, tho.
    Pittsburgh accents are horribly ugly.
I also don’t know the proper way to hold my knife and fork the way all you folks do. But don’t worry, I won’t eat peas with my knife.

I found out that I am allowed to have two suitcases (someone had told me you could only bring one)
The smaller one will have some USA goodies in it.
    Love….Jill

:lol1: John Jordan was a real aussie Jill. Top bloke in truth.

I don’t use as much aussie ‘slang’ has John did, but I talk a lot faster than he did. He always understood me though, so hopefully everyone else does too.

My mate Dave, coming with me, is deaf in one ear, so I often have to repeat myself anyway 😳

Shane and Jill, You’ll be fine and will have a great time but you’ve got no chance of understanding Scottish :lol1:

Wish I was going this year – would have been fun meeting you two. 😀

Don’t worry Shane Cobber – I have recently been watching copious episodes of Neighbours and Home and away to brush up on my Australian Accent so that you can understand me better. Not only that but I have been watching Rolf Harris since I was a boy so I reckon I can handle the lingo. 😀

Only problem is – I have forgotten to renew my passport, so I’m gonna have to slip over the border into England under the cover of darkness 😕

Don’t you sound like an Aussie if you just punctuate every sentence with "Crikey!"?
Or "Blimey!" for the English, and "@#%*&!" for the Scots.
    😉

ah.. well i know ur gonna need ID to get thru airport security if passport is dead phill, but as ur in uk ID cards should be fine as i know me mother does that. Think this might be the card and renewing a passport in 2 weeks might be a lot of bother.

Don’t worry Dave – I’m a dab hand at forgeries – I’ll just get me old passport and scan it – change the date, then print out a new document on my trusty desktop inkjet. The Rozzers at the airport won’t know the difference

Only a select few say Crikey Jill, just about anyone that wears khaki.

Queenslanders say ‘eh’ at the end of a sentence. ie Nice day eh. …. I’m goin’ down the shops eh….. fuels gettin dear eh….

I guess you get the idea…….. eh.

Shane, just make sure you have had all the necessary jabs, which I take you would have done and all will be fine.

    😀

Weather wise its’ pretty nice with a good forecast for this week, lets hope it lasts 😎

Just a couple of pullovers with a light jacket, you should be fine.

If it gets any warmer you may want to bring your open toe sandles and short white socks.

Just for the record I must admit I struggle with some of the Scottish accent. just keep nodding yes if you can’t understand anything 😀

    Canadians also say "eh".
I like to hear someone say "Aye"
I guess most Americans say "knowhatimsayin?" or "git ‘er done!" as punctuation, depending on their region.
Just finished packing, probably packed too much.
On the way home I have a stopover in Detroit, gonna wear my Malkin t-shirt just to see if I can cause a ruckus.

    Same as

Witty response = Pint of lager please :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

Glad you explained that too Jill.

Just finalising my plans now. I’ll be leaving here in 25hrs and 55 minutes…

Just purchased Jills Tim Tams so I can pack them in my bag tonight.

Pharmacist just tells me that the medication I’m on may be illegal in UAE (one of our stop overs), and I’ll need a letter from my Dr.

Trying to sweet talk my GP into having a letter for me by close of trade today 🙁

Apart from that, I think I’m ready to go. Got some UK funny money yesterday… so I should be able to eat for the first few days at least. :lol1: 😳

    See everybody soon.

The only thing left for me to get is a pack of Twinkies for Nik.
I know they have enough preservatives in them to last ten years, but I wanted them to be relatively fresh.
I also have a prescription to bring.
I heard that as long as it is in the original bottle you should be OK (with your name, Drs name on the bottle etc.)
But you better get a letter just to be safe, Shane.
I am just going to use my credit or debit card.
My $$ doesn’t go to far over there.

Jill, yes, I got the letter tonight. Dr says its probably a safe guard anyway.

My dollar buys less than your Jill.

Picked up 200 gbp from the bank yesterday, and it cost me $au450 😮

I reckon I can afford to eat every second day. :lol1:

Hey Jill, I’m heading up the Pittsburgh in a few weeks for a friends wedding. It’ll be my first time up there. I’m gonna have some pay back for making fun of all my friends here for their ‘burgh accent. Now it’s time for them to joke on my Georgia accent a little. Anyway, this Pants N’at: Donnie Iris video might show the accent a little better.
