transfer sheet wont grab onto the vinyl why is this?

Is the application paaper you are using low, medium or high tack? I haven’t had a problem with chrome vinyl and use a medium tack application paper.

Masking Tape !!

Work a treat for me , removal takes a little longer though

but then I’m a novice…

I did a 6ft banner the other day with masking tape alone , worked out fine , just takes a bit of work getting it off without pulling….

i haven’t got a bench set up at the moment , so wide applications of application tape is a bit tricky for me….a few strips of wide masking tape is allot easier…..

Sorry , i bet its a no no in the sign game , but it does work for me….

I have been using a Medium Tack with both Paper & Film Transfer Sheets – So Perhaps i Should Try a High Tack GEM just for the Chrome Vinyls (I will order some in and give it a go) I never used to have problems with the chrome Vinyl until just Recently & I still buy the same make i always have !

As for Gypsy’s Suggestion of using Masking tape – It’s a real good idea but because i sell the Decals to the customer to fit them selves i feel it would look unprofessional, But again its a good idea if it works for you Gypsy – Thanks for the tip ! – It may come in useful if i have to fit any myself.

I also wondered if temperature has a roll to play in this Problem as the room i make the graphics in at present has been quite warm due to the present weather + the vinyl cutters & Computers all produce heat, and the room is quite small . Any thoughts ?

yep , agree , no good for the customer , sorry , didn’t realize we where talking customer fit…

Another thing is that masking tape isn’t much good if left for a while , the sticky leaves some residue if left for a while , i only use tape for quick transfers….

Just another thought……….when you apply the aplication tape to your letters I presume that you squeegee it down really well before attempting to lift the letters off the backing paper 😀

Following a tip i read on the boards:-

Try removing the backing paper from the tape rather than tape from backing paper.

I do this all the time and find it a lot easier

I Do Squidgy them well as i have a home built Press that i stick all the decals through , Consists of two large rubber rollers with a handle on the end (A bit like the old fashioned mangles) – This i built from parts out of 2 Citizen Printers, I also sometimes use A block of felt that came with one of the vinyl cutters when graphics are to big for the press.

I will have a go at removing the backing from the Transfer like FredTHElad suggested sounds like it could work – Why did i not think of that 😳 – I suppose you get set in your ways & Blind yourself to the simple things !

also make sure your cutting blade is not set too deep… 😀 this is also another cause of you vinyl not coming away from the backing paper

Good tip Ian, I do that all the time, works really well especially on small stuff

Try placing the graphics face down and squeegee the backing paper, this usually helps.
If that fails try pulling the backing paper over the sharp edge of the bench, as if you were removing creases from a sheet of paper.

Thank you Alan – Your Idea Works 😀 – I tried it face down and Hey Presto they work a dream, I have done a few MG Decals and all worked fine. So i will re-wright my instruction sheet for chrome decals.
