  • Training Courses for Staff, recommendations please?

Posted by Ryan Fairweather on January 8, 2020 at 9:34 am

A Happy New Year to you all.

Looking for opinions or recommended training course sources for staff that you may have used or do use?

    I will be encouraging personal development from my staff this year so there are courses from Lynda.com for example on subjects such as;

Communication within teams, Effective listening, learning colour management etc…

I have briefly seen ‘Make it Happen’ offer courses but at this stage do not know what is entailed or anyone who has attended.

Have any of you found a source that you would recommend?

    thanks

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

I attended one of the courses with Make it Happen and found it extremely useful.

Best to speak to the office as they have just released new courses for the year.

    Thanks Chris,

I have booked a couple of slots on their ‘BOOTCAMP’ course for the production boys. It looks interesting but its good to hear your positive feedback.
As long as they take something positive from it I’m happy.

They also have a more office based ‘FRONTLINE’ course which looks interesting for one of my account managers so I may give that a go too. 🙂

I’m off to Birmingham for a training day at another sign company on Sunday, will report back.

I always find it helpful talking to other businesses, even I related industires, always pick up new ideas.

A guy I follow on twitter, he’s built up his business, and provides training on various bits. The one I’m attending is about vehicle graphics, from enquiry, design, through to installation. Whilst we’re fairly good at the design and fitting, where we struggle is the converting the enquiry.

I’m expecting him to teach this old dog some new tricks 😆

It will be interesting to hear how you get on David, as sales are an enormous part of our jobs, it makes complete sense to get decent training in it.

I’ve got an NVQ in sales, got it fully funded a few years ago, still struggle with it.

We probably all encounter the same problems, and it’s good find ways to overcome them.

I talk to lots of customers, and business owners. Listen to what problems they experience, how they’ve overcome them, or if we’ve had similar issues, like people not turning up, explain how we prevented it happening. Doesn’t even have to be a sign company.

Quite looking forward to it

Well it was worth the journey down to Birmingham.

Was great to see there’s plenty of other businesses who concentrate on quality. Lot’s of discussions about the issues we face, and how different people overcome them.

I came away with a different mindset – We’re not just selling signs. Throwing a quote infront of a customer doesn’t cut it, we need to sell the quality, the service, the advantages. There are ways to achieve great designs, without reducing quality, working within the materials limitations.

I’ve spent most of today putting together some examples, to demonstrate what’s actually involved and why the price is the price.

Probably sounds like the basics, but we’re changing the way deal with customers
