Tradesman of the year.
OK good people of the UK Signboards variety, I can now tell you about my little bit of excitement for the year.
It all started with a flier ending up on my desk advertising for ScrewFix Directs "Tradesman of the year". I stared at this bit of paper on my desk for a week or two before receiving a lovely letter from one of my customers which prompted me to fill in the form and send it in.
I had a phone call about 2 weeks later saying that I had been short listed and could I come up to Cardiff on the 19th October.
When I got there I was one of 4 people shortlisted from our region. One guy was from Snowdon area, one from Newport and myself and another guy from Swansea.
We were told that from 3500 entries there was 40 short listed from 10 areas. (4 from each area.) and we were the 4 from the Wales region. We were told that one of us was guaranteed to go through to the top ten, to go to the finals in Wembley next week.
We all had a load of promotional pictures taken and had an in-depth interview. From this interview one of us would be picked to go through to Wembley. We were given a small goodie bag and sent merrily on our way.
😥 Sadly none of us were to realise what a horror situation was to develop only a few hours later in the area that we were in, when a mad man decided to mow down innocent people with his van. (No it wasn’t any disgruntled finalist) 😉 Sorry I digress!
Later that evening I had a call from messers ScrewFix to say that sadly I was not going to go to Wembley. GUTTED! but happy to have got through to the Welsh final.
The prize was a Renault van up to the on the road value of £27000.00. A prize not to be sneezed at!
