Well over the last few weeks I have had issues with running CorelX3, it is amazing too see that program actually has quite a lot of bugs. The first one seems to be handling large files and sending them to print (after patching) Corel will Crash to desktop while sending a file to print (not all files just a few). The other problems I have had are mainly the Publish to PDF command which we have been using sucessfully to print all this time in Corel 11, the Colours appear not to match the Corel 11 with the same settings, Also when I send files to the RIP it crashes the RIP. The other crazy problem is PDF settings do not get stored correctly, if you choose a profile like PDFX1a and then change settings from CMYK to Native in the last screen, it doesn’t save them when you try to give them a name. I have actually managed to track down the PDF settings and worked out how to edit them by hand. Also this week we managed to fail in loading some CorelX3 files and had to do a Corel reset and then it worked. Another item I did notice and didn’t really believe is CorelX3 has a slower re-draw then Corel 11 or 12, it takes ages to re-draw the screen, you get used to it but it is slower.

I do like Corel a lot, but now seriously thinking about going back to 11 or 12, but all the files are now in CorelX3 format so would cause a little headache.

There u go, looking forward to patches but I am about to go in and try and figure out yet again which part of a corel draw file is crashing the RIP

    Shame
Wonder what other people think of CorelX3 problems?

Got a copy of it myself, which I’ve not installed yet, it’s interesting to read your problems Dave.

In the short term it may be a good idea to re-save files in v.12 or v.11 so that you can downgrade to the previous version without having to render your files useless.

    Loads of bugs.

As Dave says, the refresh rate is just terrible. Also, often the screen colours will change whenever anything is sent to the printer, that is on the rare occasion that it decides to print! The ‘copy properties to’ tool rarely works.

And for some reason, exporting an ai file will import into Signlab all broken up with vertical breaks in solid objects, even though the export settings are the same as they were on ver 9.

Shame really, I rate Coreldraw highly (usually) but it seems this has been rushed out with too many bugs.

Perhaps someone from Corelcorp could sign up here to answer our problems. There are a lot of Corel users here.

I just downloaded the trial of x3 on my new laptop to test it out for a week before buying it, guess i’ll just need to see how it gets on.

I’m sure someone from corel must visit this board from time to time to comment on your problems Dave

I’m surprised so many of you are experiencing problems as I reckoned this was one of the best versions.
Dave – how big are the files? if you have a file that consistantly crashes I can try it here and I will forward it on if I can replicate.
I very seldom use publish to pdf in ANY programme prefering to use Acrobat or Jaws, which has never caused problems so I can’t comment too much.
I do use Draw daily and I can’t say that I have noticed a slow screen redraw although I have seen post on the NG saying the same thing.
An easy way to convert Corel files for using in different versions enmass is to use the ‘convert files’ VBA. Convert them to cmx and then import them into a lower version. CMX export strips away styles which sometime become corrupted. If you pin point the problem that crashes your RIP please let us all know.

Andy are you refering to the left drag of one object to another to copy properties? I have never had that not work could be that a F8 at Corel launch may solve this. It will put back the workspace to the factory default, if you export your customised one first you can reimport it after the reset. The workspaces can get corrupted but X3 has been far better than previous versions.
Ai export, the lines you describe are normally corrected by clicking off ‘simulate complex fills’ in the AI export dialogue box.

I don’t think I’m giving anything away by saying an SP2 is in the mix and this will resolve some problems users experience.

Dave don’t forget to send me your problem file if practical.

To clarify I am not a Corel employee just a humble beta tester so I cannot speak for Corel in any official way and what I write here will be in the public domain somewhere, you may post questions to the Corel New Group which is frequented by other users and problems which are mentioned repeatedly are either solved by other users or filter their way Corel.

Hope this helps in some small way.

Dave just had a thought, X3 defaults to cmyk for rendering stuff in the colour manager where as previous versions have been RGB. Change that to RGB and see if it makes a difference with you pdf issue. Settings are in the colour manager, also colour space is apparently better if set to perceptual not automatic

I bought X3 a while back as a lot of my customers send me files in this version so i had to upgrade.

The main point is i rarely use Corel as most things i can do in Flexi.

Just in case you haven’t done so, what about the upgrade downloads off the net?

My version must be set to automatically look for updates & has updated 3 lots of approx 25 megs……………would this help?

alan, didn’t realise you was quite involved with Corel, I have another chat with you at some point… my experiences with Corel go right back to version 3 but this version is fantastic but it still requires some work before we see a SP3 hopefully.

Be nice is I could find a web browser way of reading the Corel newsgroups as Google groups cant read it and cant stand Outlook Express methods…

Anyway.. I am here on saturday to start figuring a little more out, first just making sure the RIP is well enough and may re-install that to double check that no corruption has occured.
If I recall, the Acrobat / Other PDF methods all use the Print driver interface, which as I posted above is even worse as it Crash to Desktop quite often. One of our new dells suffered more then others so I put it down to fonts mucking it up as they are all identical.
The CMYK working space maybe what it is as I had notice this and I did wonder, I did explore a little bit more and I kinda got this earmarked as quite a big change for Corel, I may infact try and turn it back to RGB (like Corel 11) for consistancy reasons only.

I recap my notes at somepoint and contact you privatly

And what Andy G mentioned above with the verticle lines, I also had that this week but only the logo of the company had the lines issue but the rest of the file what was imported was fine, thats another bug as I back saved to Corel 11 and repeated what I did (same settings) and things were fine, I am thinking that some options in the Export AI box are being ignored, I have to check that again.

Refresh rate, is much slower without a doubt, easy to notice.

There was a ‘hot fix’ and then a full SP which also included the hot fix. These are the only SP/fix that have been released. Latest public version is 13.0.0.667 look to help – about CorelDraw this is with SP. The other downloadable thing was an embroidery emulation which is found under effects. This did not give a stitch file but only a visual representation.
