  • to tape or not to tape?

Posted by Gavin MacMillan on January 23, 2009 at 9:10 am

we’re going to be doing an ‘ad-van’ shortly and I’m planning on just using a 3yr monomeric unlamanated digi vinyl as it’s short term advertising.

What I want to know is if I should tape it up or not? I’m concerned that it may stretch a lot easier and also scuff without the tape, but is there an issue with the tape damaging the ink? This is new to me as we laminate everything that goes out the door.

    Thanks for any advice!

I would use tape on unlaminated print, but then tape is almost as expensive as laminating with cheap lam or even cheap clear vinyl? even if its for short term use its better for the job to stay looking good,

If it’s being viewed from a distance the I wouldn’t bother taping or laminating if it’s to be short term, as in a few months. Give the prints a day or two to dry as it’s winter.

I’ve done a few printed logos on our buses that I didn’t laminate and they get washed at least once a week. It took about 1 1/2 years before they started to look faded and they are still serviceable now 2 years later, you can only tell as I keep an original in the office so I can compare them side by side.

This was on a 5 year Oracal polymeric with Activasol inks.
