  • To stand or not to stand…..

    Simple one this..I think?

I have a basic Roland plotter and have always run it off the top of a desk never got round to buying a stand for it. 😕

So…are they better, a waste of money or an essential piece of kit?

I do a lot of short run Flock Transfer stuff not yards and yards at a time………so don’t really need a basket….or do I?

Id say its probably ok but if you start to cut media over a 1m then the drop of the vinyl off a stand and vertical to the floor will help with any alignment problems its agravity thing 😆

I made my first stand out of mdf and had the graphtec media rollers on a shelf below worked a treat for years the current plotter has rollers built in underneath Muto 1300 s the only problem was the media hitting the floor and picking up fluf and dust so we made a clear acrylic cradle to keep it clean its amazing how much longer our blades last now.

My PC600 (which is the same cutter, with a print add on ) came with a stand. I found it ran alot straighter than the Roland that came with a little “tray” to hold the vinyl.

The stand was higher than a desk, so it helped with back ache, as you weren`t bending over it.

But if you are only using small bits of material, don`t bother.

    Martin,

I run our plotter from a stand – for me, it keeps it out of harms way. I don’t end up with other bench-clutter around it and whether or not I’m doing long cuts – the basket always keeps things clean.

    more soon

There wasn’t a stand made for my Roland PNC950, so I bought an old mobile computer table with pull out keyboard drawer, removed the drawer, and ct the table and base in half along it’s width to make a perfect fit stand.
Everyone who’s seen it thought it was a factory supply.
It’s on castors and has a lower (printer) shelf onto which I put the roller with the which the vinyl roll sits on.

I have one of those Computer Tables Peter, but I’ve got my heat press on it!

I’ll see how my planned move around leaves me for space, thanks all for the advice.
