Tips on installing metal posts please.
Posted by Nick Minnery on March 3, 2012 at 6:22 pmHiya
I’m hoping to start fitting more of our signs using metal posts (concrete, channeling, dibond etc)
Does anyone have any tips on this? Is there any advice on this site somewhere that I’ve missed?!
Many thanks
Nick

couple of old tutorials i did based on erecting free standing signage.
having had a quick look, they could do with being updated… 😕https://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.p … 214#132214

I think I’m right in saying that sometimes if fibre cables are in ducts they *may* not be armoured, so I don’t think they would show up with the scanner. Could be wrong as it’s been some time since we’ve had to do a scan but worth mentioning. BT around here used to tell us to check with them first – always very helpful and in our experience never charged.

From memory… Our Scanner allows you to check for Power Cables, Masonary pipes & Radio Cables. Paid around £500 for it a few years back. before purchasing we would hire one but as the need for one increased we decided to buy our own.

use the plastic packaging in the base for the pole to sit on
stops it filling with water and rotting from the inside out.
make sure you put cap on the top otherwise its pointless :lol1:derek

Thanks for the links Rob, very helpful.
Would never have thought of scanning the ground first, good job you mentioned it.
Thanks also Derek and Neil.

As already said but I would use only ally or pvc posts not steel so there is no corrosion aspect later also CAT do not as far as I am aware pick up fibre optics.
General advice scan the surface visually for equipment and service covers as these give a good indications as to whats running where and if you can lift the cover to have a look inside also dig carefully.
Oh and use a rapid set cement you can be done and away in no time 😀

Plus bear in mind that if you are not qualified to use the Cat Scan your insurance company probably won’t cover you if it goes wrong & you it a service. So best check with them as well
