  • Tinting Commercial building with residential type windows and doors – pricing..

    Hi,

got request to tint outside ( yes outside) for mental illness care home. Its plenty windows there, mostly home size double glass windows 90x60cm, around 50 of them, and all sort of diffrent sizes but mostly jus small like 70x80cm, 45×65 etc. Few bigger doors 195×100 but not many. I done all measurements, still in calculations working on quote for full job rather them m2, but they got other rough quotes based on m2 – 200m2 as start point, so I wondering what usually charge for labour in UK for window tint in commercial building with chrome / reflective finish? I got supplier for film, its working out around 15£ per square meter (external film carries only 3 year warranty and are like 3x more expensive then internal, but its what they want…). I’m more interested for labour charge, any standards per sqm I could compare with so I know roughly what kind of quote they received so I can compete? Thanks

    Hi mate

Can’t help you on square metre rate but aren’t you approaching this from the wrong end? How long will it take you specifically to fit, what’s your business costs per hour, and what do you want/need to earn on top of your costs? There are companies that specialise in fitting volumes of commercial tint/mirror and they will be likely much faster and will have different overheads – matching their prices my prices could leave you out of pocket, or conversely you maybe over charging – who knows? The only sure fire method method is work out what’s right for you.

    Just my thoughts

    Cheers

    Dave

      BOOM! What David said.

You can buy an 8×4 foamex board printed full colour for £120 online. They’re able to churn out 100’s a day. With our set up, we can’t compete with their prices, or their volume, and trying to do so is utterly pointless.

    I agree with David.

    Tinting companies will:
Have better buying power/discounts than you.
    They will fit much faster.
They may have accreditation and more…
which make the sell, for them easier!

I doubt you will be able to compete with the above, other than on the actual price you may be willing to do the job for!

I would call a couple of window film suppliers such as Bonwyke or William Smith and compare prices and maybe ask for a bit of advice while onto them?

Whatever you get the material for, add your percentage for your supply of the material to your customer.
then stipulate an hourly rate for the installation, giving an indication of the total time.
    i.e. 10-15hours

keep in mind that its an outdoor installation, access to the windows, weather permitting etc
