  • Time to look at upgrading my website…..WordPress ?

Posted by John Thomson on September 5, 2013 at 2:56 pm

Well for years I just had a Web holding page with contact details.

Then bought a cheap template which has brought in quite a good amount of enquiries and work so I am now looking to move to a site that I can actually sell from.

Been looking at WordPress………..anyone else use this?
Is it easy to get to grips with?

What plugins are good and which to avoid……….there are so many.

    Thanks

    John

Wordpress is good and can be great if you are reasonably computer savvy. There are lots of premium templates that can make a website really good. There are lots of plugins as you say. I use Wordfence for security, Yoast SEO for Search Engine Optimisation, a backup one that backs up the site to Dropbox periodically, plus a few others. I’m in the process of making myself a new site at the minute so I’ll let you know when it;s up and running.

If you are looking to sell directly from the site have a look at WooCommerce, but make sure you buy a template that is designed for it as that will make things MUCH easier 🙂

I can highly recommend pursilva for an all round easy to use e commerce site. Also the back is great as you can speak to Andy who created the site.

I use WordPress and it is fairly easy to use but has limitations, as said above a good template that works with the e commerce plug in is essential.

It’s easy to update and keep control of items etc plus you can have a blog and everything you may need

One word of advice – look for a host that is geared up for wordpress – I use TSOHOST and you can literally install wordpress in a few clicks. Makes all the difference.

If you’re looking for an ecommerce site alongside your static site don’t dismiss opencart.

We did have an online shop but removed it as we found most customers still rang us.

Our website is running wordpress, install the security plug in and seo one, cant remember their names lol.

None of this would have made any sense 50 years ago
