Hi folks, looking for peoples thoughts on wrapping windows in cold temperatures / rainy weather. We’ve 14 windows approx 2m h x 1.8m w each to be wrapped with plain white vinyl on an old car showroom. We’re using Oracal 3695RA as recommended by our supplier. The customer is keen to get the job done but the cold glass (3/4 degrees) is causing a problem when the vinyl sticks where it shouldn’t and needs to be lifted again. At this point the vinyl is simply tearing! Has anyone any advice as to how we should go about this? Soldier on the best we can and hope for the best, or try to stall the job until the weather improves?

    Thanks Davy

We’ve had these situations and inform customer, that due to weather conditions (temperature) fitting isnt recommended currently, if you wish us to continue against our advice, we cannot offer any guarantees (this is normal enough 99.9% of the time to have customer delay the work).

    FYI Application temperature > +15°C for 3695RA

Hi Colin, I agree, pvc vinyl and adhesives do not like cold weather. PVC becomes brittle and adhesive doesn’t want to stick. The question is will the customer pay for any reprints if they get damaged in application.

Hi david, when you say “wrapping windows” do you mean simply covering the glass area which is flat? i do a lot of cold weather work as i live in scandinavia, i work upto around -5c and my work lasts well.

Hi Mark, yes for starters i wear an extra layer 🙂

I fit everything wet as it stops the vinyl going brittle wanting to tear, i use a 3rd IPA in my water to stop it freezing and it helps glue go off.

Instead of using masking tape (which doesnt stick) i mark on the glass and slap it on then move into position.

On smaller text etc with app tape, i give it a very little dusting of solution, lay, then spray the face, squegee again leave few minutes and slowly remove.

Its a nightmare at times but we gotta get the work done somehow.
