    Kev,

This is the way I make shadows in Illustrator. It is the work of a couple of minutes and leaves no very acute angles that might lift in everyday wear and tear.

Fair enough you have to register the letter to the shadow, but we find that a lot easier by this method than trying to line up lots of thin sharp lines.

I always try to talk the client into having a shadow coloured border all around the letters as well, as this makes registration even more forgiving.

I’m not the only person who uses this method then 😀

    Shouldn’t think so Lee. 😀

I posted it to help Kev on https://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.p … 644#188644 but I can’t put images in that forum.

I think it’s been discussed in depth on here before, a year or two ago 😀

    Nice easy description though John.

That’s not as nice as having a gap between the letter and shadow though, in my opinion, but I do use that method as well.

    Cheers

Pretty much the same way in Corel, but this particular aspect of vinyl cutting is where the bespoke sign programmes win hands down. Signlab and Easysign for sure you just drag the handle down and there it is, welded and with the angles, different button for away shade and a handle to drag for different distances. I hope Corel revise their ‘extrude’ function, shape is there but with unwanted lines.
