Think, solves solvent solution
For a company investing in its first inkjet machine ever, the decision to go straight to solvent-based production may seem like a bold jump. However, for Bournemouth based Think, opting for a Uniform Grenadier has provided the company with exactly the right solution for the type of design-led signmaking service it provides. Think opted for the 1371 mm (54 inch) printand-cut version of this successful solvent based piezo ink-jet machine because the company believed that it would provide the best results for the type of market it was serving. Founded two years ago, Think is run by its two partners, Warren Hoare and Jason Griffin whose credo has been to provide a design-led service offering a broad range of display applications, backed up with labels, decals, stickers and vehicle graphics.
The company started off with a Gerber Edge, as its thermal transfer technology made sense at the time of its original purchase because this offered the kind of durability which wasn’t truly available in ink-jet at the time. However, with larger jobs being taken on which were more suited to ink-jet being contracted out to trade suppliers, the time came when Hoare and Griffin decided that investment in their own solvent-based equipment was a cost-effective move. In addition, it meant that Think could maintain complete control over every job which came in, reducing time and removing the inevitable risk factor involved when contracting work out to a third-party source. Hoare and Griffin first saw the Uniform Grenadier at Sign UK but they spent many months building up their business to make sure that the equipment they had mentally selected would actually fulfil the work they wanted to carry out.
Since the machine’s installation, Think has been able to extend the type of work it carries out for its customers and, having opted for a print-and-cut Grenadier, this additional feature has proved invaluable not only for point-ofsale applications and displays but also allows the company to produce step and- repeat decals and labels cost effectively and quickly.
Hoare states: “We’ve found the Uniform Grenadier to be exactly the machine we were looking for and, although we spent a considerable amount of time looking at all the options available, I think we always knew that this would be the printer/cutter for us. The whole reisin d’etre behind Think was that we would be a design-led operation able to produce the highest quality bespoke signs and displays – our philosophy is that we fuse passion with the latest manufacturing techniques. The Grenadier has given us the options we need to make our dream a reality.”
Think currently produces signs and displays for a range of blue-chip clients, not only in its local area of Bournemouth but further a field too. As Hoare and Griffin have both been involved in the sign industry for many years, they believe strongly that they are able to bring all the experience and skills required to produce creative solutions for retail, commercial and public environments. In addition, Think is happy to produce one-off signs and displays as well as offering complete project management tailored to suit individual clients. “For our first ink-jet investment, the Uniform Grenadier has surpassed all expectations, and we admit to being particular when it comes to quality of output and colour accuracy.
