Think I’m leaving the industry
I’m debating leaving the industry depending on how much I get for my equipment and also my situation with my health as I’ve been quite stressed lately as a one man band and suffer with lack of sleep so it’s time to make big decisions.
Wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone that has been like friends on here. I feel I’m leaving my baby spent a lot of money on building this up all my stuff for sale on for sale page. I hate to leave maybe I should just work and help someone else?? I just can’t do it alone and I don’t know if I can man and train or even trust bringing in staff and affording the right team to push it forward. So I think I’m leaving. It’s hard to balance everything with my disabled son my plan was to make it work for him but I’ve failed alone so time to move on. It’s a damn shame because I know given different circumstances I would be flying with this business. We will see what happens next. Thank you to all I have met Rob Lambe , Chris M, James Sohota so many of you are inspirational and have been amazing role models for the industry.
Love to stay in touch until I leave entirely depending on selling my business.

Wife wants me to try a little longer but been suffering with B12 deficiency which should be sorted as I get the injections to help and my sons situation does not make it easy to be productive. I may churn it out for couple of weeks and see how it goes. How was it for you guys that were one man bands and thought about bringing someone in to help? I either do this or I leave entirely.

Sorry to hear of your problems, I’ve been there a couple of times over the years.
Re bringing someone in, I’ve never done it except on a sub contract basis as I need them, I guess you’d have to ask yourself what you want / need them to do and if you can afford them part or full time.

Hi Michael I started just over 3 years ago working from my bedroom. I now employ 13 staff, although I am very fortunate not to have been faced with the challenges you have had to deal with.
I knew fairly early on in the development of my business, that it would be impossible to grow to a decent size working on my own. Growing my business has enabled me to allocate "headaches" to another member of the team. It costs me more to operate, and there were times I wondered if I was doing the right thing. I took on extra staff maybe a little sooner than my business needed them, but to date its worked out fine for me. Having staff has freed me to concentrate on growing rather than being bogged down by administrating my business.
I think you need to bring in someone to take the workload off yourself, give it 6 months to see how it develops (I think your kit will be worth the same in 6 months time as it is now). If you only break even after 6 months at least you will have had the time to make more of an informed decision on where your life should go.

Being self employed can be a very lonley place sometimes and is not for everyone…..add in health and family issues and it makse things a whole lot worse.

You guys are awesome. After a chat with James from Group101 I have decided to employ someone and give it one last shot. A lovely lady noted I maybe depressed which is indeed the case. I think it’s the endless circle of not moving forward due to exhaustion that make you feel so fed up and yes as mentioned above self employed is lonely.
What makes me feel like I trust you guys is your all there for each other really are. I know James was looking for a printer like mine but he still wanted me to give it another shot for my best interest rather than his own. Top bloke you are James. I will try my best.

getting in the right positive energy from an employee is a must…follow it through though…where are you based? We are here to encourage and help if we can…and don’t forget a break/holiday to recharge and reassess is a necessity not a luxury.

Big thanks Cheryl , James and Massove thanks for the chat Ian for taking the time out for me mate. I really appreciate that. Your a wonderful lot. I was once told Sign makers where not friendly by a customer of mine. He’s used me ever since which says a lot about the one he used before. I think I’ll give it one good last push. Hi Michael,
check out a book I’m reading at the moment.
I’m only half way through and it’s giving me ideas
that are guiding me through changes with my own little sign business.It’s called Life Leverage by Rob Moore.
I think you and any other business owners who read it, shall get a lot out of of it.

Being a one man band has it’s downfalls and sometimes it’s ups. Only one cup of tea to make is awesome 8).
