It’s known otherwise as methylated spirits (‘meths’). You should be able to get it from any paint suppliers or perhaps hardware stores.

No I don’t use ceramark at all so I can’t say if it would work or not. I thought you were having trouble sourcing denatured alcohol by that name so I was just giving you another name for denatured alcohol. Probably worth a small test I would think.

Meths is fine, also I use Isopropanol Alchohol to thin any metal marking paste. They all work with no problems, I have it very diluted and it still works a treat and as long as it drys with a fine covering it will work.

+1 for IPA. I use it on BZP steel and raw aluminium with no loss of darkness or permanency.

Also, despite the instructions, I scrape un-lasered Cermark off the product with a plastic scraper into a Tupperware. when I have enough I re-dilute with IPA and reuse.

This stuff is too expensive to chuck away and there is no apparent loss of quality on the work.

Nick you will get IPA from chemical supply companies or Companies selling Janitorial supplies, normally in 25 ltr barrels. You can buy it in small quantities from a lot of high street chemists but it’s expensive to buy that way.
I get mine from a chemical supply company 25 ltrs at a time as I use it for just about all of my cleaning & keep the container in a fire locker just to make sure I’m safe as far as insurance goes.

I get mine in 1L from RS components. I think the local chemists are no longer allowed to sell IPA.

You could be right Steve, I’ve always bought in bulk from a Chemical Supply Company but remember about the Chemists from a post on the forum a few years ago.

    Martin,

I used to buy small bottles from the chemists for about a fiver for archery (I’m a level-3 archery coach and my son was on the GB squad). Last time I tried I was told ‘no’ and looked-at like some kind of troll. 🙂

Now I use even more of it so RS works for me, though are by no-means cheap…

Mega respect, have tried archery a few times and would love to take it up. Unfortunately no where local enough, to do it often enough, to be good enough, to enjoy it. (if you know what I mean). I gave up on golf because there wasn’t enough time to do it often enough to……..or maybe I was just no good at it to begin with! 😀

It is a fantastic sport but should come with a wealth warning. 😉

    🙂

I’m out about £25,000 not including the motorhome getting my lad to his peak only for him to get an injury and give-up competitive shooting. 🙁

Golf would have been sooooooooooooo much cheaper. 🙂

    Ho-hum.

Doubt Golf would have been much cheaper if at all to be honest Steve, doesn’t seem to matter what sport you are involved with when you get to that sort of level they are all very expensive. My oldest Daughter was in the Scottish Gymnastic squad & that cost me a small fortune with the amount of training she was doing & a lot of it not being local.
Think a lot of kids probably lose out because their parents can’t find the funds for them to continue at the higher levels.
