  • They got me … speeding!!

Posted by John Childs on July 22, 2005 at 11:40 am

After many years of determined effort the Northants Constabulary have finally managed to catch me speeding. 42 in a 30 limit.

Well, I suppose they had to get lucky eventually!

LJ, I need a smaller number plate. 😀

If you look on the bright side John, that’s a fine of about 0.001p for every time you’ve actually broke the speed limit.

42 in a 30 though……that’s a bit naughty. Was it even a built up area?

I got a ticket for 43 on a 30mph dual carriageway in Hampshire. What the bloody hell is a dual carriageway doing with a 30mph speed limit?

I was on the M6 Toll road yesterday – strangely enough there are no speed cameras on that stretch. I wonder if that has anything to do with the massive private investment.

Im a good girl, never been done for speeding or should I say never been caught speeding……………..yet 😮
But hubby on the other hand, got done for speeding, 37 in a 30 zone, got back to work, boss told him off, rightly so. Boss goes out on a job and gets caught speeding in exactly the same place :lol1:

    Andy,

Yes, 42 in a 30 does sound high doesn’t it? The road is sort of built up, buildings on one side only, but the limit was only dropped to 30 a couple of months ago and for the previous hundred years 40 was considered quite acceptable.

That’s not an excuse, I knew what the new limit is, I just chose to ignore it.

I’m glad we don’t have cameras here in California….yet. I would be locked up for the speeds I drive.

Don’t get me started on speed cameras 👿 . Have not been caught for a few years, but here the highway patrol are considered and extension of the state treasury.

Don’t get me wrong, if they actually did some good I wouldn’t mind, but the Queensland government hauls in millions of dollars a year basically by entrapment, and our road tolls are still rising.

No one can convince me that they are nothing short of easy money for the state coffers. The people that break the law see them, slow down, then speed up when they pass them. I get overtaken any number of times by rev heads and there is not a cop around, because they are sitting on some safe stretch of road where it is safe to go a bit faster, but on the dangerous areas it is too much paper work.

1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9….. I am calming down now, it is ok…… 🙄

M8 must be the place to get caught. 2am and just come off Erskine bridge towards Glasgow Airport and a lovely long straight, clocked at 129 in my dodge van, got off on a technicality as my speedo only went up to 85 and cop says he only stopped me cos it was novel to see something that big going that fast. glad he was in a good mood!

jeez, my old dodge van would scare me to death at anything over 90, 60 on a motorway with the lorry rutts was even worserer !!!

i’d been lucky til last year, i used to do around 50,000 miles a year with work and private mileage, then i got 6 points in as many months,

67 in a 50 (dual cariageway, used to be nat speed limit til some daft cow let her girl run across it, well part way across it, so they spend 2million quid on an overpass and make it a 50 with camera’s at the bottom of the hill – detling hill- 😮 go figure), i was actually doing alot more than 67 when i saw the camera thing by the van over the brow of the hill, managed to knock a chunk off but not enuff, i fought that one cos he was in a sneaky place, on a bend, less than 500yrds clear speed – so was actually randomly checking speeds as apposed to selecting cars that look to be speeding, and that the nip took 21 days to reach me instead of 17 max. i lost 🙁 £190 and 3 on an sp30

five months later, having been forced to avoid an oncoming idiot who lost it on a bend, i ended up playing chicken with a tree at about 40mph, well that shook me right up, as you can imagine if you’ve ever hit something hard that doesnt move, unless you count the tree moving 3ft into the front of a vito !! the next day i didnt drive over 40 all day, even on the dual caqriageways ! whiplash, bruised ribs and an asshole employer didnt help either, well …. bugger me, sp30 for 37 in a 30, damn !!!

i guess i really cant complain, i’ve been let off f about 10x more than i’ve been caught ! , i think my saving grace was the times or places that i chose to speed, and the attitude you have with the police, totally shamed works well !

i think everyone speeds, i think its the last ‘freedom’ or ‘excitement’ left outside the bedroom ! but i am a huge advocate of saying that the time and place (and weather) must be measured, i think the only time speed really kills is when it is used innaproprately.

i accidentaly discovered that my current maxima (1994 pile of poo) will happily go past 130 (thats 1:30am oficer) in about a mile, see, i had this idiot chav overtake me on a bend, now that was silly and kind of got my back up, i kept up with him until we reached the dual carriageway, we fanned off the roundabout together, and then, by way of a practical demonstration, i showed this young chav that his graphic’d, neon’d and turbo’d v-tec rice burner thing isnt as clever and fast as he seems to think it is, about ten miles later, chav boy stopped in the garage i was about to leave and approached me, hoody up and cap pulled down, i must admit i was ready to lamp him at this point, well, until he spoke, all he did was stand there and accuse me of using nitrous (or nitro as he seems to think its called !) i think i upset him when i accused him of being a baby cos he was beat by an old mans car as i drove off laughing ! ,

i`ve just got done for doing 37 in a 30 limit.

    ok, far cop.

but wouldn`t it better time spent trying to get all those who drive around with no insurance or road tax… you could fine them the amount they`ve saved by not having insurance ( i pay £300 a year for a family hatch)

    or what about catching –

    rapest,
    muggers,
    drug pushers,
    crooks,
    kiddie pervs,
    etc etc

opps forgot, no money in that game…..

26 years driving no fines – past 3 years in this business and 6 points

65 mph in a 40 zone – was a dual carriageway 70 down to 40 – you need parachutes the size of space shuttle to drop that speed in my bus.

    and

10mph in a 30 zone – last one a bit confusing – but I think had to with going through a no entry and up a one way street whilst looking for a customers shop

    Hey ho!

    What I don’t understand is…

If the cameras are installed to slow down the traffic, why are more drivers being done for speeding, and also why is the accident rate climbing?

Safety Cameras don’t work, except as a stealth tax. Why don’t the civil servents abolish penalty points for speeding and earn even more revenue from repeated offences!

thing is, we won’t need camera’s in a few years, think about it, when the new road charging (posibly) comes into force, it will ncorporate gps systems into very car, the computer that checks your time and place, will also know exactly how long it took you to get from a to b too, therefore knowing if you were speeding, and tuhs being able to throw out a little ticket without a camera even being tripped,

the only camera will be those, i suspect, that will be developed to check that cars are not abusing the system, i using a disconnected system etc,

me, i’ll be working on a way to clone john prescotts or gordon browns gps number !!!
