lol, big indeed…. but….. Wells catfish can grow to over 10feet long, and have been caught that size in the river rhine, germany, on a few occasions with a rod and line 😮 saw a murky picture of a diver, in the rhine, it was only when you looked carefully that you saw that the tree trunk he was next to on the bottom, was indeed a monster of a catfish !

as for the python, they’re nuts, it’s obviously eaten something very large, i couldn’t / wouldn’t handle mine for at least a day or two after a big meal, he was just to grumpy on a full stomach !

Hell look at the size of those Mrs!!

The guy on the left holding the fish doesn’t seem as comfy as the guy
on the right, think he’s got the heavy end.

lol, i do a fair bit of shore fishing from brighton along as far as dover, , dont go after owt that big though !! a nice decent bass or two and a few flatties for a weeks lunch is all i’m after !

shane, belts indeed, my dad used to eat reticulated python when they were on safari in kenya (dad lived there til 18), reckoned the steaks were about 2″ think and as big as your dinner plate, one snake would feed 5 of them for a week ! he often threatened to eat mine, but reckoned at ony about 5″ girth, it still needed fattening !

i quite like repltiles to be honest, have had bosc monitors, iguanas (BIG), burmese pythin, albino burmese, corns, beareded dragons, and prob some more, col little creatures, my divorce kinda out an end to keeping them, couldnt be sure how long i’d be at my new address, and moving them was difficult and it kind of annoyed them ! so they were all rehomed, the mrs here won’t have owt ike that !

some pythons have eaten people, large burmese, reticulated, african rock, anaconda etc, they aint poisonous so its a bit of a squeeze before dinner time ! it’s very rare though, if you’re not overly squeemish, have a look at this ! man eaten by a python in south africa, i’m more upset lookig at the way the snake has been tied up ! http://www.ogrish.com/archives/man_eaten_by_snake_south_america_1998_Nov_21_2003.html

Lynn, funny you should say about spiders, snakes etc, i used to laugh at people who were scared of reptiles, spiders, insects etc, my wierd phobia is mummies (as in egyptian), can’t say i much like looking at walking half rotten skeletal things in films either… such as in pirates of the caribbean (though i found that particular film hilarious though !). Alien monsters… no problem, zombies… easy,snakes.. sharks… creepy crawlies… bring em on… mummies… forget it !

i’ve no idea why, other than i remember seeing boris karloffs ‘the mummy’ late one night when i was about 12, scared the pants off me as our cats used to play on the stairs at night and were clattering about, also being scared by an aunt with a glow in the dark skeleton at about the same age, i guess too many films at a young age.

this’ll give ya’ll a laugh though…. i always manage to avoid museums with them in, or certainly areas of museums where they’re present. about 2yrs ago, when i was still a service engineer i used to regularly go to maidstone museum, and one time i asked if i could use the loo, the old lady who worked there said “go bck to reception, turn into the such and such room, there’s another rom on the left, in there and the gents is to the right of the mummy”, my face must’ve given something away cos she added “don’t worry, she’s very friendly”, friendly ? i dont want it friendly, i want it not there ! but i went anyways, and sure enough there it was, bloody staring right at me laying in a glass case, well with heart in throat i walked past and went into the gent, now i’d needed this we for over 50 miles and two hours… but could i go ? could i buggery ! must’ve waited for a minute before giving up trying and washing my hands, daunted by the thought of walking back past it, just as i turned to grab the hand towel, a big burly bloke burst into the gents, banging both doors as he blundered in, well i swear my feet left the floor and i came close to having that we after all !! needless to say, that jb was finished in record time, and i aint been back since ! since that day i’ve never mocked anyones phobias !

oh yeah… sea fishing alone and heavy fog rolling in do nothing for me either, except head briskly for the car ! lol, why do i admit these things !

ad a mate who swore he was scared of nothing, horror, gore, creatures etc… nothing, laughed myself silly when he froze on the fourth or fifth rung of a ladder and squeeled like a baby ! in the end we told him if he didnt let us get him down, we’d lay down the ladder with him still on it !

Love the story about the mummy Hugh.

I think it would have freaked me out too. Many a time I have been working on my own late at night and suddenly had the thought that some supernatural presence was behind me :yikes:

Hugh you cant really believe those pics can you?
Why would they load the snake that had just swallowed a man into a pick up?
I seem to think the best thing to do would have been to cut it open?
    Perhaps I’m wrong,

lol Phil ! i dont so much mind the night time, infact, funny thing is that i prefer night time ! but i dont like the dark much, especially if i dont know where i am,

PPeter, perhaps they tracked it down after it had done the deed, it wouldn’t have gone too far i guess ! but i reckon they’re genuine, not a masive mean as such, my python was about 5″ thick, with a head only 3″ wide, but he’d still swallow a 6-7″ girth piglet !

I grew up fishing with my dad…biggest thing I have caught was a 96lb Sailfish.
Here is a 40-50lb Yellowtail I caught when I was younger.

lol ! nice fish Marek, i doubt i’ve caught anything over about 9lb when shore fishing !! i went out on a boat once, the weather turned so rough that we didnt even get a rod in the water before coming back into port ! it’s only the last year i’ve really got back into shore fishing after a rather long time away from it !

biggest freshwater i’ve caught is an 18lb pike, a mate of mine had a 46lb common carp, but as i tell him, it doesnt count, he spent three days laying on a big sunlounger chair thing, and that was all he caught, thats not fishing, thats having a bbq, plenty of food, all the comforts, and you just happen to have a rod in the water !

in my opinion, true freshwater fishermen and women, should be like elmer j fudd, go stalking veeeeewy veeeeeewy qwietly along the banks etc, not sit by a pond full of fat n overfed man made fish in the sun ! yeah. Grrr !
