  • Thermal stress fracture Of Glass Disclaimer

The question about cracks in glass often come up and if vinyl contributes.
It certainly can and this is a very good article which explains many of the problems.

I also thought I would post my own Glass Survey and Disclaimer I use when fitting graphics and vinyl to glass. It is really to make aware to the customer that you are aware of the problem and that you have warned them of the piossibility. It is not the vinyl in itself which causes the cracks but it may help existing cracks to propogate more.
I use this form to quickly check things to look out for.
I have just done a job to fit a one foot strip of black vinyl along the base of a large annealed glass laminated window. The worst situation possible and would normally ring all the alarm bells. However it faced NE in a narrow street and hardly aver gets any direct sunlight so after explaining this to the customer I asked him if he thought the risk was worth it. That is different from me Reccomending the installation.

so My Check List and disclaimer is as follows.
    Hope its of some use.

Good idea Stuart. I have recently done a window that had suffered the same fate only for the new one to fail as well after I fitted the new vinyl. Glad to say that I know the customer well and no blame was put on my work. But it is good to cover your a$$ anyway.

Roy, don’t forget to bring this to the customers attention before you start work, might be worth a picture as well just to cover yourself.

Top man Stuart, some really helpful stuff there.
