that would be because Jason spoke Australian and us being Scottish don’t understand his native tongue! 😮

Seems the Irish have a problem with Jasons accent as well because Harry doesn’t understand either!!!

I thought Jason might have been on by now to explain to us all what he meant but maybe Jason can’t understand his own accent :lol1: :lol1:

    Yes but in reverse order.

Sorry Jas I dont understand either, and I’m a yorkshireman.

You may have heard the phrase, you can always tell a yorkshire man,

but you cant tell him much 😉

I speak a bit of Australian. I think he means that in each forum section,
ie Sign Discussion, Vinyl Cutters, Printing etc, the general topic should be
moved to the top of the section. I could be wrong though, as I haven’t
been to Oz for a while….

:lol1: I will spoil the trend and admit that I think I actually understand … hows that for a blonde eh!!! 😉 … could also have something to do with having distant relatives from Aus … could be the native language hidden somewhere in my genes? :lol1:

In each main forum category there is a "General forum" I think what Jason is saying is the "general forum" in each category could do with being at the top of the list rather than half way or at the bottom like it is at the moment?

Could be completely wrong though … there has to be a first time eh 😉

I think Jason must’ve been on another site and pressed the wrong button.

Either that or he’s slipped through from a parallel dimension where the site is completely different from this one and everyone knows who Carrie is 😮

    I don’t know what I’m talking about either…

What was the question again 😕

  • Robert Lambie

i "think" Carrie might actually be correct… referring to some notes based on the da vinci code there seems to be similarities that spell out roughly what Carrie has said in translation to Jason’s post. if this is the case, ill try explain why these forums are laid the way they are, but best get confirmation from jason first. :lol1: :lol1:

jason, over to you mate… 😉

    Carrie & Jamie are right.

The forums are broken up into categories. Most of these categories have a general forum beneath them. EXAMPLE Sign Discussion has General Sign Discussion, Printing has General Printing Discussion and so on.

I’m proposing that the general forums under these categories be moved to the top of its category as in the ordering.

For the technically inclined these categories can be treated as top level forums and the forums beneath them are treated as sub forums. But this varies to forum and I’ve used a few with just categories of forums.

I will watch BRAVEHEART again to get back in line with you lot 🙂

    thanks for the explanation mate…

i do see what you mean and it IS easy for me to do. my thinking on the general discussion in each section was…. lets say i listed it like this…

    General Cutter Discussion

    Graphtec Cutters

    Roland Cutters

    Summa Cutters

    Mimaki Cutters

    PCut Cutters

I recon that most will just use the first one and overlook the dedicated forums below. however, if they have to scroll down reading as the go they are more inclined to see the dedicated forums and if none are for them, last one is "general cutter discussion"
    hope that made sense? 😕

my problem is that the forums are filling up fast. we see lots of repeat posts on same issues/products because back posts on the subject in question are lost within thousands of posts. so breaking up into the most popular catagories is "maybe" the way to go.
however, this does and i have no doubt add more work for moderators because lots of folk just post any old place regardless. 🙄
there was about 18 new forums created in past two weeks from only "two forums" that were split… so we still have a hard slogg ahead of us weeding the general sign topics and others for posts that dont belong. 😕
think im gonna vomit at the thought… its the most boring task handed to mankind :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: "these posts are, beleive it or not. ….selected.. on at a time" (puppy-eyes)

Hey rob thats cool if you want to make them all at the bottom then choose the bottom.

But general sign topics is at the top and the printing one is second last. aslong as it’s consistent it will be ok.

:lol1: yeh i know mate… general sign topics has always been up in top two… but that was before we brought in these other forums only last week.
in the printing one i made it second last because i was listing digital print machine forums then last was general. but… i added screen printing to that section only yesterday i think and its sitting at bottom now. i was going to change it but wasnt sure… still not because screen is more old hat and seperates the general digital printing from dedicated digital printing forums.

    if that makes sense? 😳 :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

as i said though mate… still in middle of doing all this… lots more to do/try before i settle on it. 😀

to be honest jason, i do understand what you mean and i do think you are correct. i just have to think about ongoing issues the site has had until now before settling on something definate.
i am glad you have brought it to my attention though as it has me reconsidering now.
i know we are having a bit of fun with this post but thats not about your thoughts on this, its just because some of us didnt understand the way you worded it initially. but what the hell, have you ever read some of my own posts and got confused? 😳 😳 :lol1:

    😳 😳 actually I had no problem understanding Jason’s question at all….. should I be worried :lol1: :lol1:

I tend to agree with Rob though. If they were at the top of each category, people would just click on that link first.

I think they need to be last, to make people look through the choices… before they ignore them and post on the general one anyway 😕 :lol1:

  • Gavin MacMillan

I understood as well, but mainly because I was thinking the same thing!
Actually I was maybe thinking a bit more extreme and wondering if the general forums could be together and the software/cutter/printer specific forums further down? Maybe this would stop them being used and therefore defeat the purpose?

It’s seems less easy to have an ‘at a glance’ look to see whats happening now. Maybe it’s just me. Also I don’t use the ‘post since my last visit’ link… maybe I should!

Old dog and new tricks… I’m too young to be stuck in my ways so I should really just keep quiet! 😛

I have to be honest and say that the order of the forums makes no difference to me as I am on the boards every day and just use the "post since last visit" button or the search function if I am looking for something in particular.

John subscribes to a pinstriping magazine and the recent issue contained details on a site which automatically directs new users to a FAQ post, as the administrator felt that the same basic questions were being asked over and over again (sound familiar?) Would it be an idea to have an area such as this covering topics such as difference between calendared and cast vinyl, vector and bitmap images etc. When a new user registers, the could receive an email welcoming him/her to the boards and a link to the FAQ post?

Dawn, thats a good idea, I have mentioned to Robert before about a FAQ forum but I think the main problem is that people don’t tend to use them as much as they should, it is easier for them to just post a new question rather than try and read through a lot of other stuff. If they were actually directed to it when they joined up via a link in a welcome email they might be more inclined to use it.

I think it should be a ‘knowledge base’ type thingy.

Coming up with concise answers may be a bit time consuming though. It would be good to be able to offer some help to do it, I’d be happy to contribute with my limited knowledge. I volunteer to direct people to the best jokes 😛

ill reply again asap on this but please feel free to suggest anything you may think will help improve how things are setup.

    thanks again everyone 😉
