    Evening all,

    Just wondered if anyone could assist with some advice on the best way to promote a business on the internet? I’ve just finished (well finishing technicaly!) our new website and have added ecommerce facilities. What would be the best way to promote our site and get visitors on to it?

    I’ve looked at;

    Google adwords – have subscribed to this but no real noticable increase (not really showing on the web stats either)

    Applegate – seems quite reasonable for the "gold" package but if I wanted to stand out it could run into £2-£3k a year! 😮

    Touch Local – did a basic listing and the sales guy rang with the usual patter. Got excited when I told him we could deal with clients across the UK and Europe but never got as far as costings. Was suggesting we take a "sponsored" ad to appear at the top.

    HELP!! We cant afford to put money into all three and need some pointers as to which would be best. I appreciate you’ve got to speculate to accumulate but need to see some sort of results with it.

    Cheers
    Andy

    Try an e-mail shot to existing customers. Id set up a fake home page like http://www.mydomain/email.htm, but the visible text just shows the home page so you can monitor the hits. My e-mail signature block has this and I can gauge website hits from e-mail. This page is a direct copy f the home page, so users don’t realise the difference unless they know what to look for.

    List yourself with all the free directories, do a web search for sign makers in your area and look at the directory listings that come up and register. Most have a free listing option.
