Thanks to that Lambie character…
… I’ve managed to spend a couple of days with someone I’ve wanted to meet for a few years – John Simpson and his lovely wife Annette.
John spoke very highly of his friends on the boards, and we both agreed that Rob has been the catalyst for a fair few lasting friendships.
Although the first day it was just the 3 of us checking out the sites, My wife took a day off work, and my kids took a day off school, and we all spent the second day touring the north coast.
It was, without doubt, an experience that will be with us for a long time. John and Annette are lovely people, I only wish we lived closer.
I’ve been very fortunate to meet and make friends with a lot of you in the UK, and having John come to oz and spend some time with me was truly appreciated.

Great stuff Shane, I only met John the once at the sign show one year, as you say some good friendships have come off through the boards.

John is a delightful man, I have met him too and have always kept in touch with him since he moved.
This place has certainly been the cause of some great friendships! 😀 (Been trying get shot of Nik for the last 5 years but she ain’t taking the hint!!!) 😉 -
agree with Marcella John is a lovely man we have met him many times, never had the pleasure of meeting Annette, but we still keep in touch with them, like you all say some great friendships have been made on these boards.

Met John a few times now and he is the perfect Gentleman… top bloke.
its really great to see how folk from all over meet up face to face, and just hit it off. in all the years of UKSG meets at signuk i dont think ive ever heard a single complaint or winge about anything or anyone…the site actually owes it all to its members… we have a top notch very friendly and knowledgeable community.

I have been very fortunate to have met many people on here who have turned out to be good friends because of Rob & his brainchild (Uk Signboards) As Shane has already said my wife & i are on holiday (5 weeks) over here in Oz with my wife doing the organizing of where to go. My only stipulation was that i wanted to meet up with Australia’s No 2 son Shane Drew…… (No 1 being Steve Irwin) which i have also done only today.Shane was just as good a friend in real life as he has always been on the boards & by email. We spent 1 day with Shane & then the 2nd day with his family & we got on like a house on fire, as if we had been friends in real life for years.
Thanks a lot Shane, it was worth the trip here if only to meet up with you.

I can endorse everything said about John. He has helped me out in the past and we were lucky enough for John and Annette for a quick visit some years ago. Glad you are both enjoying retirement.

we have met many true friends via the boards,
Its not just a "virtual" place, and just to point out to newer members, a lot of us are real people, and behind the scenes, we help each other in real life.enjoy your holiday JS,

Good thread, great photo’s, I’ve done the tour Australia thing a couple of time’s now and the worst thing is the end and coming back to the UK, you just want to go back again (hot)
