  • TEST RESULTS on SC500 HEATER SETTING UPGRADE!

Posted by Tim Knight on January 26, 2004 at 9:42 pm

    Hi All,

The supplier of our SC500 sent thru heater setting upgrades a few days ago. We changed the heater max setting from 50 to 65Deg C.
After a few print tests on Avery 900, GMI cv300, Calon Arlon print media,
    we came to some conclusions.
Any Calendered vinyl was no good. The print quality is fine, its just the ink
doesn’t seem to really bit in!
The extra heat might have improved quality a Tad but after 3 days drying time ( a public holiday long weekend ) the prints on the Quality vinyls
still smudge, rub off with finger & eraser, scratch and mare. I’m not talking running the prints thru the ringer or anything just light rubs.
The applicator even marks it. If we clearcoat everything I think It should be ok and use only premium vinyls.

    Any comments welcome.

    Tim
Are you saying you have the sc-500 ex upgrade?

    So just use cast vinyls?

So what’s good about the prints?

    thanks

    Hi Raleigh,

Its a SC500 that was originally released with Solink
but came from Roland with a HEATER and new Eco Sol ink
    prints 1400mm wide approx.
I had the actual owner of the company down today and saw with his own
eyes a ecosol ink print on Avery 900 cast vinyl at 65Deg C
after approx 24 hrs after print it will still smudge.
He isn’t happy with the result as aren’t us. So its back to the drawing board for him. He thinks its got to do with the Profiles or maybe the machine??

The best we can get so far is printing onto Cast vinyl and clearcoat with
acrylic lacquer in aerosol can or Spraygun.

    Have I answered your questions?

    HI

I HAVE JUST HAD MY SOLJET PRO 2 UNPGRADED TO EX
THE DISCRIPTION YOU GIVE SUITS WHOT I NOTICED EMEADIATLY AFTER
THE REMAINING SOLINK ALTHOUGH PRINTED WELL WOULD JUST RUB OFF EASILY
WHEN THE ECOSOL INKS GOT THROUGH THE SYSTEM COMPLETLEY EVERY THING OK
JUST A THORGHT IS THE RIGHT INKS IN AND IS THE RIGHT INKS IN THE CART

    Mr Sticker,

The machine came sealed up without any carts put thru.
The install guy had to run cleaner thru and drains the pipes if you
know what i mean before putting in the Ecosol carts in
It was brand new without using solink. He then put new Ecosolink
straight in for the first time..
The company that put the machine in has given me a date at least to
come and see us with the Roland tech onsite and see for themselves
have to wait a fews weeks but! ( 26th Feb )
untill them we will use the roland only on specific jobs

    thanks for the reply

I have very little success with Avery the inks dont stick to it and often solid colours come out sort of shattered. I mostly use premium polymeric Starrex (made by X-film) or graphitac , however there are a huge amount of vinyls specific to digital printing that work very very well and are often cheaper and better than “traditional” vinyls. The profiles supplied by Roland seem not to work well , we tweak our profiles to limit inks to about 2/3rd to 3/4s of whats in the profile and also set total black cut off point from 150 to about 100 otherwise there is too much ink laid down. Prints come out dry this way with all the vibrant colours.
    (we use Colorip 2.0b)

    Hi Rodney

    thanks for the reply 😀
I will chase up some Starex. I have tried Arlon Intermediate
Not sure what its called but its a satin / matt finish. Its not coated
they assure me, but made for Solvent printing. It was OK still smudged.
How do I go about backing the ink off like you say in the profiles. 😕
We are using corel 10 and printing thru Colourchoice rip that came with
    the printer.

    thanks
