  • Temporary Fixings for foamex / foamboard

    Hi All,

I’ve been asked to provide some 3mm printed foam board branding for a customer. The boards are to cover 2 x walls each roughly measuring 4.5m x 3m.

The 1st wall is a wooden partition that folds away to make the space larger, the second is a section of painted wooden cupboards. The brief(challenge) is to attach the branding to both the painted surface and wooden surface with a temporary fixing which can then be removed leaving both walls in there original state. The branding only needs to be
    in place for a day.

My first thoughts are removable double sided tape? however I can’t risk damaging the walls – I’m a rubbish painter and decorator! 😥

Any advice or experiences would be handy

    Thanks – Dan

Hi Dan, what about some small sticky fixers or round Velcro pads? these can be very discretely placed and should be OK to remove after wards without any problems.

We print some posters for a big shop chain and use the same thing so that they can be moved around the shop with the different promotions, and that seems to work for them mate

As your not holding up any weight they should do the trick.

    Thanks Justin,

Velcro or sticky fixers could be an option. I’m just a little concerned of how much weight they can take. Granted I’m only using 3mm foam board so not that heavy but I need to show as few joins in the panels as possible so each section could be as large as 3m x 1m.

    Cheers

    Thanks Liam,

I’ve used Velcro tape for this sort of thing before but never on a painted wooden surface. I need to remove the tape at the end of the day and can’t leave any sign of damage 😳

Justin – yep a 3m drop – will do, cheers.

Dan – can remove the velcro tape from the static surface?

    Thanks.

we use it all the time in the airport on painted walls, for temporary signs 2-3 days duration normallt and havent had a problem! Just be careful when you peel it off! we use 3m dual lock

we use SJ356D which we get from spandex, but you can get some from Jag supplies which is much cheaper and not as strong adhesive wise, which is probably better for this job! (we only use 3m in the airport because they insist on everything 3m) if you are using 3m you need less than you think! it is strong

Scotch 19mm velcro dots from Staples each hold up to 1/2 pound – 227 grams.
    Come in packs of 24.

Thanks Dan – that’s very helpful advice 😀

Thanks Peter – more options the better.
