TEMPLATES and VINYL for BOATS?
Posted by Kate and Danny on January 20, 2007 at 10:08 amI Know it’s a long shot, but are there such a thing as templates for boats?
The enquiry I have had is for a J80 sportsboat.
Also what vinyl would you recommend for this ( UK supplier please…)
Cheers
Danny

I have never seen boat outlines and would imagine there isn’t enough demand to make it worth while producing them. Some of the boat manufacturers have scaled outline drawings in their sales brochures and what I have done in the past is scanned these and then scaled them up to size. Other option would be to photograph the actual boat and scale it up. Any cast vinyl should be suitable for this, I used to use oracal 751c for most of my work and never had a problem with any vinyl applied to boats.

as martin has said, oracal cast 751 will do the job nicely, most casts will to be honest.
also as martin has said i dont see the demand being there for these types of outlines.
on another note, i dont think front on views will be accurate enough anyway. bu that i mean… the underside of boats form a "V" also the measurements can be made the viewable size on the template will be one thing but the actual real size another. im naff at explaining this but a good example is the front of a van on vehicle outlines. never are they accurate because it is impossible due to the viewing angle.i know that’s probably the worst explanation ever, but i did try… :lol1: :lol1:

What rob means is because of the shape off the pointed end, it will be longer in life than a flat drawing. Anyway. if you are applying graphics below the plimsoll line, its a dot (department off trade) requirement that they should only be applied wet if a dry dock is available otherwise they must be applied dry to ensure adhesion 😀
