• Telephone manners

I think people are becoming ruder.

For some time now I have become aware that clients when speaking face to face will break off in the middle of a conversation with me to answer their mobile phone (I have always thought this was a bit rude of them).

A new phenomenom has now arisen. In this instance a client will phone you and in the middle of the conversation you will hear their mobile phone ringing and they ask you to “wait a moment” while they answer the other call 😕

This happened to me again today. So I decided to hang up while my client continued his conversation down his mobile while I was expected to listen in and wait patiently for him to finish then continue his conversation with me.

When he called back, Alison explained I was busy with someone else and asked could she take a message?

It’s happened a few times recently – and each time I have hung up on them as I think it’s extremely ignorant and bad manners.

    Phill. listen carefully.

Try and catch up with life.

phones and communication are the life blood to any business.

it will soon be a requirement to be able to convert a pone pic to a sign

catch up, or get left behind

i do hate this sorta thing too, i understand people are busy, i understand the customer doesnt want to loose business by not answering the phone buzzing in his pocket. at least they could do was answer say im with someone ill call you back, or, just redial the missed call when they are done. eezypeezy and nobody is upset. 😀 :lol1:

now staff wondering off into a corner to text a mate is another thing altogether 👿

Right – so next time I phone a supplier to order some materials – they won’t mind if I break off in the middle of my call and ask them to hold while I speak to my buddy about last nights television 😕

This seems a bit obtuse, and us old geezers find it un polite..but modern man dosnt have the same giudlines as you and me, because text and mobiles are the norm, and they all do it all the time,, its now not considered bad manners to answer your txt, just normal!

rant and rave all you want, but youth will prevail

but i suspect he considers you as a regular supplier.
I hate it when it happens too. Good old email, I prefer it but slow at getting direct answers.

banning them from the work is only way nik. there is no compromise, they will just find a way… if its not in the loo its behind something 😕

I know what you mean Phill

    Arrived at a job
I put my car on the meter and just as the guy in the shop was going give me further instructions his mobile went off!

I was left standing for a good 15 minutes or so. His instructions to me took no more than a minute. Could he not have told his client that he was currently occupied in another matter and ring back ….or even hold the line for a mo whilst I could get on with things (hot)
