Hi Tony,
The carriage disconnect error you report whilst printing could be caused by the encoder being dirty.

Under normal circumstances this error would report the following when during the printer initialization:-

0105 Tool carriage connection error – causes are loose connection between the tool carriage and head carriage. Fault in the limit position value or limit sensor. The first thing that would normally be done would be a limit initialise to ensure the lock position is correct and the encoder count of the scan knows where it is. If this fails then the limit sensor would need to be replaced.

0106 Tool carriage disconnection error – This is very similar to the above except it takes into account the cap motor and the same sequence as above would normally be done to overcome it.

When this error comes up whilst printing if the linear encoder is dirty the printer would get confused as the scan motor would not know where it actually is and makes a decision that the tool carriage is disconnected.

To clean the linear encoder strip you can use cleaning solvent that you would normally have for maintenance this is very useful when the encoder strip has ink on it as it will remove it better than anything else, if using this then apply to a lint free cloth and clean off afterwards with dry tissue. Always start from the right hand side and work your way to the left, the reason for this is because the linear encoder is fixed on the right but has a spring fixing on the left. If you work left to right then you could stretch the spring.

If you regularly keep you linear encoder clean then you can use a mild soap detergent such as washing up liquid as the linear encoder may only have dust particles on it.
