  • Tech 8 Breakdown Contract Problem

Has anyone had any problems with Tech8 recently?
I paid upfront for an annual contract in December 2011 and in May I was informed that Tech8 were to stop carrying out this work and passing it over to another company.
Anyway, they were going to reimburse me 6 months monies so that my cover would seamlessly pass to the other company but yes you’ve guessed it, this hasn’t happened.
I’ve emailed them and called but they are not contacting me either way.
Even the other company said they would see if they could do anything but as yet I’ve heard nothing.
I recently emailed Tech8 to see if I’m still covered with them but haven’t heard anything.
I paid in advance in good faith and I’m totally disappointed with the way I’m being treated.
Is anyone else in a similar situation?

Are both companies owned/operated/directed by the same people?

No, at least I’m not aware that they are.
    I’ll check.

Be as well to check. I know of two companies (two individual instances) who did something very similar over last winter. The folk behind both companies were one and the same – not in the sign industry though.

Neil as soon as I had a letter i cancelled my direct debit as I smelt a rat, i hope you get hold of them soon, I took another warrenty out with VTS they came out gave the machine a 40 point service before they took on the warrenty and it is cheaper! http://www.vts-service.co.uk

    Hi Neil,

Sorry to hear about this lack of communication, its not they way we normally work here at Tech8.

I can assure you and all that the decision to move the warranties to another company was purely a commercial one and no reason for ‘speculation’.

Over the last few years our focus has been – Warranties – Spares – Colorific Ink R&D.

Unfortunately one of these areas of the business had to be moved to ensure that the service we provide Colorific and all of our customers who buy printer spares, was the best.

Please feel free to contact myself if any of you have questions.

Tech8 now specialize in Spares (with free support) and the development of Colorific inks.

    Again, apologies to Neil.

    Thanks – Justin Atkinson.

Justin, when you say you specialise in the ‘development of colorific inks’ do you mean ‘using your customers as guinea pigs, then when a problem arises, discontinue selling the ink, tell the customer that their printheads are all messed up due to ‘wear and tear’, not adhere to your warranty claims on your website, direct the customer to the ink manufacturer who turn out to be part of the same company who do not retun calls or emails, and wash your hands of the problem when it turns out to be more than just a blocked damper issue’? This is what you guys have recently done to me. Others out there who are thinking about switching to third party inks need to know about the risks of dealing with a company who cannot stand up and accept liability when things go wrong. It seems that Selectech / Tech8 / Colorific are happy to leave their customers to clean up the mess left behind from their ‘ink development’. I am disgusted and very angry with the way I have been treated by you guys.

    Hi Paul.

I’m sorry to hear of your troubles. Are you operational yet or are you still having problems. If you are still having problems, please start a post about what sort of things you’re experiencing and hopefully one of us can help.

As for Colorific ink, it’s my ‘understanding’ that IGS are a distributor and not a manufacturer. I have used many different 3rd party/compatible inks for Roland/Mutoh/Mimaki and Colorific seem to be one of the good ones. Unfortunately, every type of ink has problems from time to time, even OEM inks. The key is down to how it’s handled by the dealer. IGS/Tech-8 have a whole host of engineers and techies in their network and I’m sure they’ll have somebody who can help.

Hi Stafford, yes I am now having to use a higher quality (slower) setting on all my printing and still have banding showing. Yes they certainly have the engineers to sort this but the question is ‘Do they want to sort it?’ it seems unbelievable to me that they can ignore the issue but I have now had an email from Justin so hopefully they will now sort it.

If anybody wants to follow this I have started a seperate post in the INK category. Not sure if I can post links on here but I’ll try:
