• Tax Deadline

Posted by John & Dawn Roddick on January 29, 2007 at 7:37 pm

Just a note to anyone finishing off tax return at the last minute (like me!). They are very likely to be on strike on Wednesday so have advised that returns are submitted tomorrow to ensure that no penalties are incurred.

They told me today that it would only need early submission if being done on paper – if you are registered for online submission then there won’t be a problem. Too late to register now for online though as it takes a few days to activate.

Yeah, I used to like watching that Adam Hart Davies’ programmes but every time I watch one nowadays it is spoiled by the knowledge that he is now working for the enemy.

Don’t know if it’s the same in all offices Nik, but I was at our local one today after work, and they said that they would have a skeleton staff of 2 tomorrow, who would be there just to accept returns and nothing else. Means you would be stuck if you had any queries but would at least ensure you meet deadline.

So far this week I’ve written cheques to H.M. Jackals for Corporation Tax, Personal Income Tax and NHI, PAYE and VAT. It adds up to an awful lot of money for a small business.

I wouldn’t mind so much if I thought it was going to be used wisely, but I know the majority will be wasted. 🙁

I’m working in Corby today John, and as I noticed on Friday when I was there, most of your money goes on beer and chips. Bloody loafers.

Thanks John. Too late, I’ve just got back and read this. I was next door to the Corby Candle pub. They start early in Corby, don’t they?

Anyway, back on topic. As I drove past the tax office this morning, I shouted "get back to work ya lazy b@stards" at the top of my voice. They were all stood around with placards, doing nothing. They didn’t seem impressed.

    It made me feel fulfilled.

I’ve never worked that out Andy. I don’t know if they start early, or whether they haven’t finished from the previous night.

Whichever, I’m sure that the cost is a good use of our tax money. 👿

Shame I missed you. Anyway, whenever you’re passing….

Shame they have a direct link with DVLA to check vehicle registrations. Can see someone being put through the mill by a tax inspector :lol1:

That’s OK, I was driving my girlfriend’s car.

Rule no 1: never shout abuse at tax inspectors whilst driving your own motor.
