Well, I did it – I did.
Went out and bought me one big mother of a new computer complete with WindowsXP preloaded. Now I’m not a nerd just cus’ I don’t buy my computers in bits and then build em’…cus’ I’m quite up on that sort of thing when I want to – but – I also like to pay slightly over the odds from a good local source and plug somethin in and go! – after all this is a business I’m running and though I’m an avid on-line gamer I still need to know the damn things gunna start every morning when I flick the switch.
Anyway – Everything is great, I love XP because lifes short and I don’t wanna be sorting IRQ’s and DMA’s every time I stick something new in the back of it. I was very happy with all the USB self-sort thing and the speed with which I transferred my entire business from one machine to another.
In all, I transferred over 17gig’ of data and programs, some by cable and some by burned CD’s and all was well…
except…
Signlab!…
Now I’d heard the rumours, read the threads and been offered the tee-shirt but did I listen, No – why, well I’m mikethesign and any sign software worth it’s salt wouldn’t dare muck me around in this fashion, would it?
Well, yes it woould…and did! The main problems I encountered were a) at first it couldn’t see the dongle – but this seemed to sort itself???!!! then b) kept getting a ‘register this software at Cadlink online’ box up – so rang Cadlink who faxed me a new password and this was duly sorted. Then C) noticed a few little things that made me giggle (not) like I couldn’t click on anything white, I could marquee it (drag a selection box around it) but not click on it…then there was the fact that it won’t weld certain things, only some mind! and the fact that I’ve had to re-install all the fonts twice – cus they keep dissappearing…and on..and on
Now, I’m not going to go back – cus I don’t beleive in that sort of thing, you gotta move forward. For now, I’ll work around the problems as most of them are niggles but Cadlink did assure me (when I asked them directly) that there were no XP problems with version 5.7 (Instant Replay) or E6 but that is most definately not the case…so I’ll nag them to sort these problems and resist the £500 upgrade to E6 for now!
Has anyone else had similar problems and found any remedies…I suspect I already know what some will say…but we’ll see 🙂
more soon
