what do you do at this time of year or any time to get new customers or generate
    business from existing ones?

We went through the same thing last year. January & febuary 2001 were so quiet, and as it was our first year in business we were a bit worried so we had a load of flyers printed and delivered them to high street shops & businesses. It brought in some good customers that we get repeat work off quite regularly. Having said that we now have adverts in a couple of yellow pages and so far this year the phones have’nt stopped.
    Good Luck!

our company does not really slow down to be honest. at christmas we do get less inquires
but we have a good customer base with allot of repeat business to take us through any
slow periods that may occur. i think if you are going to target customers by all means hit the usual high street shops & local industrial units. but what i recommend
is think about the companies that need signs all the time & try getting in the door with
them. bend over backwards to be nice & helpful, as soon as they try you and they get a good price and service from you then they will tend to keep using you.
property letting companies such as "Imex" these type of companies are great to work with
once you are in. these type of companies buy very big industrial units very cheap then
transform them into lots of small units & then rent them out.
so you get the main building front signage, there directory boards, street signs guiding
you there, all the health & safety signage within the complex i.e. fire exit, toilets,
fire point etc. then theres every single new unit they have created from the building
that needs signage for the occupants & there interior signs. now once you start doing
all the occupants signs in turn the occupants start giving you there vehicles & anything
else you can supply them with. so as you can see it has a knock-on effect with orders for you.
from this one customer he may have opened the door to 40 of his customers to you. without you even trying.
this type of customer i recommend gunning for as to the high street shop where you may only in some cases
get one order then nothing but like alex says you may land lucky and get repeat orders.

    best of luck mate!
