Then dad and I left after spending two days checking it all out. The first day was just to have a look at everything, then the next day we went back to products that interested us, after taliking about what we saw the night before.

    Dad was exhausted

We went in our uniforms, so the sales people knew we were serious sign people and professional.

Great Pics Shane, thanks for sharing.

Did you make any new purchases while you were there?

    Thanks Paul,

Saw and purchased some new materials, and made some good contacts with some POS companies.

Keeping my eye on a couple of flat beds. Looking at making a purchase of one those in about 2 years, so I am interested in the direction of that industry too.

…and is there a competetion to win number 1 status in wrapping!? Reminds me of tennis ranking.
Nice pics shane… thanks for the insight.

    Thanks Rob,

the Oracal wrapper is a really nice guy (He wraps other brands too). Very obliging and no question is unanswered.

He certainly is the best I have seen, been doing it since before wrapping was started (started plastic wrapping cars for export). The thing I noticed was his finishing. He was a lot neater than other wraps I have seen, even the 3M guy at the show.

He did make it too easy. I spent a few hours with him at Oracal in Brisbane a few days later, with a few invited sign shops, and learnt the finer points, tricks of the trade if you like. But at the end of the day, even he says, the more you do the easier it gets.

Flat beds….. I am still open on this. I think print & cut may be out of my price range at the mo. Probably looking at the lower end of the market at this stage, but I am hoping by the time I am in the ‘market’, the market may be a little bit more competative, if you know what I mean 🙄

    Thanks Dave

when you say print and cut, do you mean direct to things like foamex?
there is a new printer just out by graphtec. flatbed one… prints on many things, two sheets of foamex at once and also vinyl of course. was around the £50k mark i “think”. thats the lowest costing flatbed i have heard of to date!

Not seen that here yet mate. One of the cheapest at the show was the ‘Octopus’. Sells here for around $200K. They have sold 2 here in OZ in the last month, but not sure of the quality. They were runing tests at the show, but I missed the demos unfortunately. Does not cut tho.

Esko were promoting a cut machine that was fantastic. Another bloke I met at the show was putting an order in for 2 units, the work on the registration system, so any printer can print, and then the esko machine die cuts the material. very impressive and expensive.

Great photos Shane, loved looking at them, was it a very busy sign show? and how long was it held for? Also out of interest was it held in the middle of the week or at a weekend?

They said it was very busy, but the place is huge so you didn’t really notice a ‘crowd’.

It was a 3 day show held from Thursday, Friday and saturday. We went on the Friday and Saturday.

They had higher than expected attendance what ever that means 😮

I was just thinking about the poll that was run recently about our sign show and wether it would siuit people better to have it midweek or at the weekend, I think Thurs, Fri and Sat is a good compromise, as it means you could afford to take one day off to visit rather than having to take two days off. 😀

I think just about all our state shows here are run with at least one day on the weekend. Our brisbane show for instance is run on a friday and a saturday.

    Seems to work well here.

With flying down to sydney on the friday I only lost one day of work, altho I spent 2 days there… if that makes sense…. 🙄
