We are looking to buy a new press over the next few days, does anyone have any present recommendations and know of any companies doing offers over this week?

We have been looking at one from magic touch but at around £800 is this too pricey?

I have a clam style press (HF4500 Sports Press) with Teflon coated heated platten from Europa Leisue/Jarin Industries, I think Graphityp do them too but if I were starting again, had the extra room and could find a coated head on a swing away I would be tempted to get one of those I think. £800 is not expensive for a good quality press.

    Hi Nigel,
Grafityp had a really nice big swingaway press at the show called the siser ts-one going for £999 i believe, really solid looking unit.

If i had not just brought a clam press from target i would have gone for it.

Also the swing away took up a little too much space for me when it opened up.

They did say, give us a ring thursday afternoon and we might sell you this display model at a discount so you never know.

Check out the target transfers website they have some nice machines there and they negotiate discounts.

    cheers

a clam press uses the same footprint but with a swing away press you swing the top head way over to the right leaving the base accessible.

I’d go for a swing Adkins

There are some really good videos on youtube which explain the difference between clam and swingaway i’ll do a quick search for them for you.

But particular models may vary and might not swing as much as others im not sure.

one problem they usually tel you with a clam press you get most pressure at the back of the press and it’s not an even distribution of pressure like with a swing press.

But the clam press i got has over the top centralised pressure, so look out for that as well, maybe i’m just being fussy now though!

    Here you go-

and here’s the press i got-

can’t tell you if it’s any good though as only just got it out of the box

My old used magic touch swing away press is so old it’s painted with hammerite, it’s an atkins press which is almost identicle to the current presses, Tmt estimate it at over ten yr old, bit slow to heat up but still works perfick! Wouldn’t worry too much about a long guarAntee on them!

Nigel, the swing away I have, 50 cm platen, needs about 2 x 4ft space .

    Hi.

Was just wanting to ask someones opinion of this heat press.

    http://www.ace-apparelcraftequipment.co … P3838T.htm

Is the price to good to be true? I can’t actually find another site that sells this model to compare.

The press is just going to be as a little weekend project, so it’s going to recieve relativity light use.

What do you think. Is it a good deal. ?

Generally yes, you don’t get something for nothing, you’ll probably find that the heat is uneven across the press or the temp gauge is out. I imported a swing away press from China about 18 months ago, it’s not bad but I think I only paid about £150 for it at the time with the exchange rate and everything else that I bought. At the time it was only to produce freebies for customers. For that price I could live with it. As it stands it is now a backup and I have since spent £700+ on a proper one as we have picked up quite a bit of business from our initial idea.
Looking at the price it is low but I’d hang on and buy a decent one at that size and style for £500. If you want it to be reliable and consistent, once you have it you can work it hard then.

    Hope that helps (from experience)

    Hi Stephen,

Just as Jason says, and this is the reason why we are getting a new one. The link you have there is to what looks like the exact model we have and paid around the same though we got it on Ebay. Its really a poor machine with uneven heat distribution.

I thought that link looked familiar. Google "Joys Sewing Machines".

Thanks for the advice guys. I think i’ll steer clear of that one. Looks like i’m just going to have to save a few more pennys and go for one in the £500 – £600 price range. Cheers.
