Swine Flu. What would you do?
Posted by Karl Williams on July 4, 2009 at 6:04 pmDon’t know if this has been raised on here yet so I’ll carry on and see what comes of this thread.
My wife has just rang and told me we’ve been invited to a barbecue tomorrow. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon I thought. Then in the the next breath she tells me the mother of a little boy who goes to my nieces playgroup has shown positive for swine flu but the boy is at present showing no symptoms. I’ve told her no way are we going to the barby with there being even the slightest chance we may be at risk. Now I’m the bad boy for refusing to go with our boys. Ive already sat at the bedside of Dylan for months praying he lives and I’m not going there again. My question is this, Would you knowingly socialise with family or friends knowing of the risk or not? Or am I being paranoid? I don’t think I am. The government strongly disuade swine flu parties on the advice of the chief medical officer (i think thats his title) it actually spreads the disease quicker to the people who are most in danger.KEEP CLEAR…
Peter

I think you did an excellent job dressing up like that! -

unless there is a breakdown in communication then No Way

nip down to Tesco’s (or any other major food retailer 😉 ) buy loads of sausages, burgers, beer & chocolate and just have one in your own back garden…..definitely wouldn’t take the chance of going to the other one….better safe than sorry

Karl don’t go.
I can’t believe the woman is still planning to go ahead with it.
Begs belief I’m afraid

No chance, thats just asking for it.
How many beers would you need to drink to pork her by the way?
-
I’d not be going. The fact that the party is still proceeding is a bit stupid.
I’m not into panic, but if the chance is there, then I’d be leaving it to another time when all is clear.
We’ve just had a 3yo boy die from swine flu here, so the risk is real, and no need to take risks in my opinion. Its just a party that can be held at a later stage anyway.

Thanks for the replies guys.
James……….you’re just sick in the head mate. but then again many women look attractive when a few beers have been sunk!
Anyway we didn’t go. the inlaws have gone and have said they’ll pop round to ours after even though I’ve told them not to. The day they listen to any concerns I have will never happen. Bit of luck they’ll catch it and collapse on the way over. 😉 -

I am glad you didn’t go. My 9 year old has now caught swine flu and is very poorly. It is not a pretty sight. Had to travel 20 miles to get the Tamiflu tablets as my home town has NONE AT ALL! The NHS didn’t see a risk in this area???
Although he is sick he remains in high spirits(ish) and is battling on!!
-
Craig, sorry to hear about your boy, hope he makes a speedy recovery.

I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery too mate.
Was brought up in Selby and still have family living there, I am not surprised at all that you had to travel to get the medication. Sounds unbelievable but if you know Selby it ain’t.
Cheers

According to my Doctor there’s 17 confirmed cases in West Bridgford where I live. No deaths and all the cases aren’t serious as of yet. 1 of these is at the same school as my 2 lads.

Thanks for the comments guys.
He is still running a temperature but the pucking has now stopped. He has been sleeping most of the day though. My wife is now showing symptoms not sure how long it will be before it gets me!
Gary, where abouts in Selby did you come from? If you are ever visiting your relatives please drop round and say hello. I run a unit just off Canal Road, opposite the Plumb Center.
