well i have just opened a chilled can of bud, poured into a glass and began chilling out on this lovely friday night 😀
sitting going through emails and my wee girl shouts to me… i answer and turn back to the computer. on doing so i knock the full Budweiser over my relatively new keyboard. i say relatively new because i bought it about 2 months ago… all singing all dancing logitec for about £80. the problem is, i do this at least once every 6 months but have done it 3 times in as many months. 😮 while ago now now that one :lol1:
the thing is, i don’t drink any nights other than friday and Saturday and its always a blood Friday it gets me, mostly always sober! 😕 :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
i now have the keyboard upside down on a radiator drying. i doubt it will be ok though, from all the keyboards i have spilled drinks on, ive recovered one! 🙄

anyway of claiming for this or is that a daft question after so many? :lol1:

PC World it is tomorrow then! 😳

surely i am not alone on this… anyone spill the odd drink or ten on their keyboards? any tips on wringing them out? :lol1:

    bloody Friday 13th! :lol1:

You need to get one of those keyboard gloves. I used to have them in the early days just in case I tipped the odd coffee cup over them but being the good boy that I am I have never tested them properly. 🙄

My wife & son tend to store chocolate and biscuits in the keyboard now 👿 😕 :lol1:

:lol1: Trying to blame an unlucky Friday for being too tipsy again eh!!!!

Moral to the story …. or in your case "stories" …. buy cheap keyboards!! Some peeps might say stop drinking … but I wouldn’t recommend that.

We’ve got through quite a few keyboards, remote controls, headsets, batteries and telephones … since we had kids :lol1: From soggy keyboards and sticky keys to hundred piece electrical components puzzles …. no matter how much we try to keep kids away from certain things you can guarantee during the one split second they get near its like Friday 13th everyday!! We now buy cheapy keyboards, they work fine … Tescos … "every little helps" …. No I’m not on commission!!

    😛

    thanks for the support 😳 :lol1: :lol1:

carrie i honestly would buy the cheap ones as i use zilch on the keyboards as far as the shortcuts etc go… but when i do as much work as i do on my comp i like a comfortable keyboard with easy touch keys etc
i actually bought a cheap £9.99 keyboard and still have it as emergency backup due to me going through so many, but i hate using it… to the point i have only used it once. :lol1:

done that loads of times too 😳 I usually turn it upside down right away and let it drain ………. then remove all the keys and wash them in warm water. Let them dry and clean the board with a damp cotton bud. When all the keys are dry, pop them back on!!!!!!!!!

……….never guess I’d done that more than once eh 😳

my policy too John… however my family subscribe to the thought that dads rules are meant to be broken 👿 🙁

Only ever done that once tho Rob with a boiling cup of coffee, and for the record… keyboards don’t like any liquid with sugar in them. Coffee, Coke, beer… its the sugar that does the damage… (My technician voice speaking here) Milk is not good either though.

    Mr. Lambie

DO NOT allow your work to interfere with your valuable drinking time!
Go to the PUB, and spill their beer all over their furniture…. And it makes sense drinking in the presence of a professional who can call your wife to come fetch you. Once or twice a week…..

Robert, I have posted before about putting them in the dishwasher, doesn’t always work but does a lot of the time. If I get laptops to repair that have had liquids spills on them I always strip them down and put the motherboard through the dishwasher, you would be surprised how often it works and then instead of £200 for a new motherboard plus labour its just a couple of hours labour.

they have some crazy fixes for some computer repairs dont they? IBM once released a white paper on HD recovery. If you have a HD that isn’t working due to a ticking or grinding, store it in an airtight freezer bag and put it in the freezer for about an hour. Plug it in and recover the data. I dont remember the exact science behind this, but the cold does something to the lubricant and lets you get about 30 mins of access to the drive before it stops working…can only be done once usually though. Its scary how many recoveries i have done using this method…

good tip george.. ill remember that.

martin, i am typing this up on my, yet again, new keyboard. 😕
i have asked audrey to stick the old one in the dishwasher and see how it goes. ill keep you all posted :lol1: its eiether that or stick it in the bin. almost all the central keys are stuck in the pushed down position, has a lovely sticky feel to it too 😳 :lol1:

George, done this many times in the 80’s & 90’s when I was a computer technician. Got many a uni thesis off for some geeks that had spent 4 years writing a thesis and never took a backup.

Its nothing to do with the lubricant tho, it tightens the bearings due to the cold. It works best if you lay the drive in its side as well, so it’s not working against gravity, and its spins like a Ferris wheel.

Its basically the last chance though.
