• Supplying to the USA

    Hi All

What do I need to know to sell in to the states? I have had an enquiry (not a reverend 😉 ) and wondered what the financial implications are regarding vat and export or anything else.

    Many thanks

    Warren

Your local Customs & Excise office will be able to tell you all about the VAT side, I’ve always found them to be quite helpful on the phone, there may be a national 0870 number now.

I’d be very careful though as if anything happens with non-payment then there’s not a lot you can do to get it back. I learned the hard way, working with a friendly ( or so I thought ), quite well known Ice Hockey club, they shafted me royally even after I had flew over personally so they wouldn’t get a huge fine when the US customs cocked up!!

Sometimes the customs charges are very high as well and don’t forget to put little stickers on the items you’re selling saying they were made in the UK.

You should definitely check, but I don’t think that VAT is charged on anything for export.

It’s been a long time since we exported to anywhere other than Ireland, but that has no VAT added.
