If I can piggy back(!) (hot) onto this request. I’m after best prices for Roland Cam-1 Blades and some general advice as to how you determine whether they are blunt, how long should they last and is it worth getting them re-sharpened?

    Hi Jim & Martin,

For the blades I’d to Mathias who advertise on this site. They do a brilliant job, and they’re well priced.

Cartridges – Depends if you want OEM or compat. I get my OEMs from Signmaster Systems, if you pay by card at the time of order you get them for £10.00+ VAT+P&P. Still testing the compats not quite sure of their quality at the moment.

I currently get the self-cling from Victory Designs it costs £2.15 per metre it’s 1M wide but they will splice in half at no extra cost.

    Hope this helps
As far as blades go. I would recommend Edward Matthias
You will see the advert on the home page.
Why are they good? They are one of only two blade manufacturers.
When you buy from Roland, spandex, Graphtec etc you are buying a product that has not been manufactured by them. Even though have them packaged in their own boxes etc… so what you have is a blade sold by them and manufactured by someone else… they buy it in and knock the price up… I remember a few years ago we were buying a box of 5 blades for nearly £150… now we pay about £40 for 5 and for far better a blade. In my view anyway.
If you call them they will send you a new blade and holder. If you don’t like it then that’s that… no charge.
If you do like it and want to continue using their products they invoice you for the blade. Can’t get fairer than that.
They do all types of blade not just cutters… each blade comes in one of their own special sealed bearing blade holders. They have a holder for whatever type of machine you have….

So how much is a blade from them…. brand new £8

Oh and do me a favour and tell them where you saw there advert.

Jim as Robert has said Edward Matthias are probably the best place to go for blades, you will pay a little extra for the first one as they come fitted in a holder, but there is no setting up as they do all this, you just put the holder in the machine and away you go, no mucking about setting the blade length etc. When its blunt you just send the holder back in the bag they provide and they send you a new one. The prices are really good. As for the question OEM cartridges are manufactured for roland and branded as roland. Compatable cartridges ard made by a third party could be anyone and carry a different branding. Its just another way of saying Roland original cartridges or someone elses.
