Supplier of milling cutters for hand routing please?
Posted by Colin Aburrow on August 16, 2006 at 11:29 amHi
Looking for a supplier in UK for hand held routing cutters. I have a fairly big job for scoring and folding & cutting AluBond panels. I have looked in a book supplied by DiBond for hand held cutters but can’t seem to find the correct ones in UK. Also what type of cutters are used on acrylics and the like.

I use a DeWalt router for scoring before folding and a Excaliber for cutting

Thanks Dave
But what sort of cutters do you use. All new to me but I assume not ones you use for woodwork.

That’s the sort of thing but not sure I need a kit was hoping to just buy cutters. Thanks for the link though as I have been looking for wall brackets as well and they seem to have a good range on there site.

Bog standard wood bits do the job. Bear in mind how thick the aluminium is of the material….thin as a gnats prick

Thanks Dave
What about routing acrylics would you use bog standard bits for that as well. Sorry for all these questions but I really think a router and bits will give me hours of fun (oops useful for work) but never used one before so want to be able to justify it to myself and her indoors.

Yes, use for acrylics as well.
Can’t you tell I’m a tight barsteward 🙂
If her indoors gives you any trouble, give her a slap 🙂

Thanks Dave
I must admit her indoors does have a lovely bum which I do enjoy slapping on occasions. :lol1: Hope she does not read this or it will be me that gets the slapping 😀

If its long straight lines for folding into trays, it is possible and to use a bench saw, you need a blade that has wide enough teeth and have it ground to a "v" shape. set the blade to the correct depth, and remove the rip plate from the saw, try a few test runs first. A lot faster than a router, you just have to make sure the dibond remains flat on the saw bench. not sure if h & S would approve though.
Also this link may be usfull
