  • supplier needed please to match a gold vinyl?

Posted by Jeremy Howes on June 19, 2007 at 7:43 am

    Hello all,
I have been asked to match a Gold vinyl which is to replace a letter on the stern of a yacht.
I gave them a sample of the Hexis/Metamark gold, which are identical as far as I can see, but they need something slightly darker with an Olive tinge to it, can some kind person point me in the direction of a supplier?

    It does exist, honest!

Same gold as the cover of a book of Royal Mail 6x1st class stamps

    Many thanks
    Jeremy

Jeremy sounds a bit like the Metamark 4 or 7 series gold ………. which isn’t as bright as the Oracal. Was that the one you tried?

no I don’t think so ………… Oracal gold is definitely brighter (even the 551) than Metamark. Metamarks is duller and not as glossy either.

    Hi Marcella, Dave and Rob,
It’s slightly darker than the Metamark 4&7 and I’ve yet to try the Avery and Oracal, I’ll need to get some colour swatches, who do you use as a supplier?

    Many thanks

Hope this is a good customer Jeremy, seems a lot of work just to match a letter.

I was going to suggest 551 Oracal, I’m using it on a van I’m doing at the moment.

    Europoint supply Oracal

You could also try Amari who supply Mactac vinyl………. or Robert Horn do Avery.

Jeremy, I use Oracal for almost everything that I do but I have swatches or colour cards from most of the suppliers. They spend most of their time in a box gathering dust as I only show customers the oracal swatches but they come in handy every now and again when I have to try and match a colour. I have swatches/colour cards from: Europoint, Metamark, Grafityp, victory, Hexis, Spandex, Robert Horn and Amari and LG.

Thanks everyone for you suggestions and contacts.

Martin, yes they are very good customers so it will be worth the extra search, the letter is about 400mm sq so any difference in shade would stick out like a blind cobblers thumb.

    Thanks again

    Cheers Martin,
Thanks for the sound advice….I must get more swatches now that everything has just moved up a gear.

Seeing as this is on a yacht, have you thought that salt water may have affected the original colour in some way.

May be a lot less hassle just cut a fresh set of lettering!

    Hi Neil,
If only life was so easy!

I suggested this but for some reason the letters would have to replace the existing ones perfectly, and on top of that there has been some slight changes to the original font (Eurostyle).

    Cheers
    Jeremy
