  • Sublimation Setup – Who do you recommend?

Posted by Robert Lambie on September 16, 2008 at 11:55 am

I purchased a Siser T1 t-shirt, cap and pocket press from Grafityp and i am now looking to buy a printer, bulk ink system, mug press and stock. I looked at NovaChrome at SignUK and liked the quality of their products etc they have since quoted me on the setup including stock. I also received a quote for same from Xpres.
I am about make a decision and purchase but wanted to ask if anyone else has any other reputable suppliers based in the UK that i should consider?

also, does anyone have any recommendations on the best printer, mug press etc. that i should go for? they have given me their own recommendations on a system, printer etc but want to make sure i am making the right choice as i don’t mind paying a bit extra to get what i really need.

This setup is NOT to get into this line of work, it is basically for self promotional purposes… by that i mean i will not be churning out large volumes of work.

thank you in advance for any help, advice given.

    .

    Hi Rob.

A couple of other dye sub suppliers for you to try: BMS (Printer Owners) and Home to Gifts.

As for printers I can’t fault my R1400 with Rotech ink. Staples have knocked £50 off them, bringing the price down to £249.99 (even beating Amazon!). From memory the Rotech ink + CISS for the £1400 came to £255 +vat.

I only use a cheapo chinese mug press and I find the results very good. I can’t bring myself to shell out £500+ just for a mug press!

Clothing – Vapor, SmarTee, Xpres. Other items like coasters, keyrings etc stick with the Unisub brand.

Xpress for consumables, BMS for the ones xpres dont sell.
Continuousink.com for the bulk ink kits and revolution for the ink,
it is rotech ink they use but only sell in 250ml bottles due to small format dye sub printing being a grey area, whereas wide format is fine for some bizarre reason sawgrass dont mind that
    😮

Ant help you need just give us a shout, I still use my 1290 but have a backup 1400 and kit and ink for when it goes wrong but 3 years on its still working great.

    Hi Rob,
I have a George Knight Mug press and swing press. Both have 8 presets that you can program for different temps and times. Solid machines.
Listawood trade supplies for mugs an a few other things.

For ease I went for the XPres Startup package. The swing away presses they use are Adkins ones and are very robust.

The startup package was great for me as I had no prior experience with garment printing at all, but I could have found cheaper if I had bought separates.

Tech help guys at Xpres are spot on too.

    Listawood are far from cheap.
I only use them for glass tiles.

Purchased the majority of my gear from Novachrome but that’s not a recommendation!, they really only make an effort with you when you’re purchasing the initial equipment, after that it’s very much a case of "get on with it"

Xpres are fantastic to deal with but just slightly more expensive on some items but can be recouped by keeping your orders above £250 for the free delivery (except mugs) I personally don’t think their sub inks are all that great though, maybe worth following up on Steve’s lead 🙂

The ink from Revolution I think may be lyson not rotech, Its what i have been using the past 3 years anyway and its what revolution use themselves and continuousink and its excellent, good vibrant colours and very sharp etc.
The 250ml bottles are very reasonably priced too.

It’s been my experience that Novachrome are only interested in larger sales and then they become hard to talk to. Maybe its a bad part of the year for them 🙁

Hat’s of to steve for the pointers he has given me in correct pricing though (Public Thanks Steve)

No, I think they offer this poor service all year round 😉
