I presume it is that trend to put photographs on headstones 😕

Whatever you use you’re going to have big problems with image fading even with a laminate. I’ve had dye sub prints outside for 3 months and they’ve almost disappeared.

If the headstone is a gloss marble stone then I would think it would be done by laser engraving, the quality you can get nowadays from a laser compared to 5 to 10 years back is astounding.

As far as I understand the ‘grave photos’ are not normal dye-sub, they are porcelain / ceramic and fired in the same manner as a photo commemorative plate to ensure they cannot fade for the foreseeable future as they have a huge lifespan (spoke to a memorial stone supplier ages ago about these – he imported from Italy or Spain).

Dye-sub will be fine for a year or two at best – reverse printed vinyl on clear acrylic 2-3 years.

    Thanks everybody for your help….
Basically what i am looking to do is print a photo and a poem
onto something that can be put on a grave. (-)
Maby even print onto an Aluminium Sheet and stick it to marble or even a piece of wood……
I’m not sure if it would last with the irish weather (Rain not Sun)
    It doesn’t have to last a life-time…..Even a year or 2…
Has anybody ever tryed this (?)
Maby it’s something that can’y be done ???

    Thanks again
    Louise :thanks2:

    Louise,
we do this quite a bit.
We will laser engrave a photo and text onto a piece of anodised aluminium.
Then this is applied to on of those marble plaques that sits on the grave.
It gives a lovely finish for the photograph.
hope this is of help to you.

    dale.
